GIIAS 2015: Daihatsu FT Concept – going the SUV path

FTConcept_02

This is the Daihatsu FT Concept, which debuted alongside the FX Concept at the 2015 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) – the latter takes care of the crossover side of things, while the FT is a proper SUV study.

The seven-seater FT rolls in at 4,350 mm long, 1,750 mm wide and 1,690 mm tall, with a 2,685 mm-long wheelbase, which makes it very much a medium-sized offering.

Not much ventured about the concept – which is finished in a Warm Silver Metallic exterior shade – save that it features a “tough and sporty exterior and a futuristic dashboard” and rides on turbine-shaped five-spoke 18-inch alloys and 225/55 series tyres. Nothing subtle about that front grille, for sure.

The interior features a digital instrument cluster, push-start ignition, leather seats and plenty of shiny surfaces – if you’re into the stuff, the polished metal-finish on the four-spoke steering wheel and centre console are bound to impress. Lots of contrast stitching on show too.

Like the FX Concept, the FT features a rear-wheel drive layout, and it’s powered by a 1.5 litre engine – that’s all that’s mentioned, with no numbers offered in any form. Would something like that do well here – tell us what you think about the FT Concept.

Daihatsu had make a lot of concept cars but they rarely make them into production. Sadly :(

I wanted to rebadge this car to our market at cheaper price but P1 keep warning us not to do so. Please forgive us and blame the head of P1. Thanks for your support and we will keep delivering quality products to our customers.

    • Unfortunately, everyone now knows that P2 will only get their new model once Daihatsu has phased out that model, ended production in their shores and only then transfer the jigs and molds to P2.

Unlike P1, freshly baked from oven. We are getting expired, stale, mouldy and unsafe P2 products.

Yea, P1, freshly baked JUNK from the oven. So fuel hunger, so unreliable, so rubbish transmission, so expensive the price tag, so low RV, so lousy car brand…

When P2 launch this, those popular SUV like HRV, CRV, Xtrail, CX5, including our Rush and Fortuner gonna hurt a lot.

a jacked up alza replacement model may prove to be popular among rural inhabitants with higher ground clearance… Perodua might give it a go

  • Looks like a new Toyota Rush to me…… Do improve on the 1.5 engine and add more gears to the gearbox on auto and also manual. Looks like they are pulling up their socks after a hit from Honda…. Well, you will never know what the competitors have up their sleeves till they come “in your face”…
