Chevrolet Sonic facelift unveiled, heads for New York

2017 Chevrolet Sonic

The facelifted Chevrolet Sonic will debut at the New York Auto Show, with a number of updates that can be found inside and out. It will be available in LS, LT and Premier trims for the sedan (also available with the RS package), while the hatchback returns exclusively in RS guise – offered in LT and Premier trims.

New to the Sonic’s exterior are projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, a new bonnet and a restyled front and rear fascia. Elsewhere, the Sonic is available with 15-, 16- and 17-inch wheels and new colours including, orange burst metallic, brimstone, cajun red tint coat and arctic blue metallic.

Inside, it gets keyless open and start, a new instrument cluster, powered driver’s seat, a seven-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with 4G LTE and Wi-Fi hotspot, while heated cloth seats and heated steering wheel are available options. The RS trim adds unique floor mats, a piano black decor, RS-badged flat-bottomed steering wheel and optional red upholstery.

Safety-wise, the Sonic gets 10 airbags fitted, while a rear view camera comes as standard. Safety tech includes forward collision alert and lane departure warning, Stabilitrak electronic stability control, ABS and a new rear park assist function.

As for power, the Sonic’s 135 hp/167 Nm 1.8 litre Ecotec engine is carried over, along with the 138 hp/200 Nm turbocharged 1.4 litre Ecotec mill. The latter can be paired with either a six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission. The facelifted Chevrolet Sonic will go on sale by fall of 2016.
