Renault has been picked as the exclusive engine supplier for the upcoming FIA-certified Formula 4 South East Asia Championship, which kicks off in August. Triple A, the promoters of the championship, announced that the Renault Sport Racing F4R had been selected as the mill that will equip the race cars in the series.
The first round of the F4SEA Championship will take place on August 6-7 at the Sepang International Circuit, with the new homologated FIA Formula 4 race cars running the newly-designed F4R engine. The naturally-aspirated engine is based on the 2.0 litre F4R production unit, and has a power limit of 160 hp.
The lightweight F4R engine has been adapted to the series’ technical specifications with the aim of producing a reliable, stable and easy-to-maintain engine for the hot and humid Asian climates.
The unit has undergone a total of 3,000 km of testing at Val de Vienne and Magny-Cours circuits on top of a test bed 8,000 km endurance run. The promoters say the mill has also been tested in hot conditions at Sepang.
Malaysian motor racing team Meritus.GP will be the exclusive race engineering services provider for the FIA single operator championship. The 2016 F4SEA season will feature six triple header rounds, with four of the races in the championship taking place in Malaysia.

It is a good step forward for those who want to go forward after go karting. Still, the biggest factor will be the costs involved in participating in all the 6 rounds of races, with limited sponsorship.
