Ford GT – 6,506 buyers, car limited to just 500 units

A total of 6,506 fully completed applications for the ownership of the Ford GT have been received from around the world, according to Ford. Applications were made within a one-month window, with videos submitted to help applicants boost their chances of owning a new Ford GT.

That said, out of the thousands of applications, only 500 lucky ones will be eligible to purchase Ford’s supercar. According to the company, almost 200,000 people have visited the virtual configurator and 10,800 people have showed interest in buying a new Ford GT.

Ford is now reviewing all 6,506 applications and will start notifying potential owners in the next 90 days. Meanwhile, it was said that videos sent in by applicants featured children, lighting effects, racing footage, revving engines, garage tours and life stories to show why they should own the new Ford GT.

The carbon-fibre Ford GT sports the most powerful EcoBoost engine ever produced – a mid-mounted 3.5 litre EcoBoost V6 mill. The engine is said to be able to churn out over 600 hp and is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Ford noted that based on data obtained from the configurator, frozen white is currently the favourite colour among fans, followed by liquid blue. The car is expected to arrive in customers’ garages by the end of 2016.
