Proton to use Petronas E01 family engines?

Proton Holdings Bhd signed a memorandum of intent (MOI) with Petronas to develop larger-capacity engines and an environmentally friendly alternative fuel system. The MOI involves Proton and Petronas working together to explore the development of Petronas engines like the Petronas E01 for mass production and fitment into Proton cars. Proton intends to use the E01 family for it’s 1.8 to 2.2 litre product range. Proton and Petronas will also collaborate on NGV systems for Proton cars.

Previously a Letter of Intent was also signed between Petronas and Nanjing Automobile of China for it’s Petronas E01 family.

At last Proton actually may know what they are doing. Its about time they put their "patriotism" to good use which in this case is the engine. Very fine specs I have to admit. Lets see how this turns out ;)

This E01 engine is hawttttt, but my guess would be proton would have the watered down version to cut costs and such, as usual malaysia cars are always lower spec :(

It would definitely be watered down. Engines that are mass produced cannot retain the same precision in measurements. Would have to be detuned for reliability sakes. That's why people send engines for blueprinting and balancing.

what i meant by watered down version would be lower compression, safer fueling maps and perhaps lower volumetric efficiency than the original E01 which produces 200hp on paper

about the Campro project being a variant of E01, have no idea…but 200 hp + VVT @ 2 liter capacity is completely usable on d road IMHO…its not that highly strung till you receive unstable idling and such

Hmm… i just want a confirmation. Is it true that the Campro project is actually based on the Petronas E01 engine. I remembered that the E01 is a powerful 2-liter engine producing 200hp. The Campro 1.6-liter, 110hp is actually a watered-down version of the E01 (they simply lower the E01's engine capacity and horsepower to make it suitable for road use). Is this true? Any comments?

Now, this is what I would like to hear from Proton. Now they are talking. Well, too bad if it has to be with the de-tune spec. cause the original E01 is one hell of an engine. Nevertheless, the point is that finally the 2P's will collabrate in producing a 'Made in Malaysia' engine. Imagine the technology transfer that Petronas has got from so many years of involvement in F1 with Ferrari's and beginning this year, BMW. How much technology that they've got, and how much they will get in the future, I don't know for sure. But they should get the credit if the technology at hand is bein put to good use.

Make it happen. Then we can call it our national pride.

    Happy New Year!

Phew…. At last. I think Proton is going to do well in the near future. It's a partnership i've been dreaming of since the E01 launch. :) Picture this: Campro engine for 1.3, and 1.6, and Petronas engineered engine for 1.8 and 2.2. Hey… 1.8 and 2.2 liter?????? I hear Proton PUTRA, and PERDANA replacements…. :?????

proton wanna make a SPORT CAR? ..

better i write in BM sometime laah.. :D

Saya suka membaca tentang ekonomi.

As claimed =Ultimate driving machine.

Kerana apa? atas apa saya percaya?

ATAS SEBAB PETRONAS DAN PROTON ADALAH SYARIKAT KEPUNYAAN MALAYSIA!. Tidak mustahil satu2 keputusan (decission) itu saling berkaitan. ;)

THE WAY YOU GO PROTON! And PETRONAS TOO!!..

A nice engine which can be interchangeable from car to car being underpowered? Hopefully aftermarket power ups should arrive as soon as P1's 1st model utilises the E01

    Paul,

the VE of this engine is rated at 107.8% but at how many revs?

Even if this engine goes into mass production, there's still a question of reliability pf the engine and the transmission.. lancer cvt? i must be dreaming..

Proton should at least provide this engine as an option..

this engine has been sitting around doing nothing for such a long time. i think petronas needs protons help to bring it to market.

they probably have to do a lot of re-engineering to make sure its up for mass production, durability, emmissions..etc.

The CAMPRO is actually based on the 4G13/4G15/4G16 engines albeit with a DOHC configuration

At last.. the E01 engine in proton cars..

as far as i know, the campro engine has nothing to do with EO1 engine. E01 was made by petronas while campro was develop by proton with lotus. Whereas the E01 have a variable valve mechanism while campro dont – although they planned to come out the that mechanism in campro engine but until now still nothing yet on the road – originally campro refers to – CAM PROfiling that is different type of cam profiling in an engine package thus giving a variable valve timing.

P1 must be careful using Petronas engine. Petronas only know good in drilling oil not making engine. Can their engine go to Europe for higher step such as step 4 emissions?

I heard very expensive plak tuh.. P1 tolong Petronas or who should help who?

…hehe sorry me too lazy to go through too much on those technical terms of cars or engines or whatever :D

…sometimes too much thinking, brings no actions :D

…our leaders want us to support our own national cars but they dont even lead a good example :D

…me working in s'pore, earning S$2000/mth, living in JB, everyday take bus across that crazed causeway, what car can i truly afford? :D

…still remembered 3yrs ago how i bought my first car :D

…walked into a proton shop, looked, touched, & sitted in a new design which they call a Gen2 :D

…not even a test drive was made, i paid RM10000 and loaned 5yrs and waited 6mths for their 1st patch to come out from their oven :D

…i paid in Mar'03, finally exciting and happily driving her home in Sep'03, one of the kind on JB roads :D

…within 6mths, added volt stab, air charger, 60' GT spoiler which is normally used for a Supra (RM1250), 4 tubes of under carriage blue neon lights (RM 1000), damn cute and nice for being one of the 1st on JB roads :D

…Jun'04, finally after its manual say whatever engine care we should excerise, I decided to take her on a trip to KL :D

    …Jun'04, 0200, on JB-KL highway, right lane, someone up ahead started a race, 1st car=S'pore Mercs CL Class, 2nd car=S'pore Honda old civic, 3rd car=M'sia old Waja, 4th car=Me :D M'sia Gen2 Auto1.6 :D

…Speeding at the speed of Max.185km/hr, she felt so powerful, loud, but strangely stable unlike my dad's Wira 1.3 :D

…Then heavy rain came :D, and the 1st to give up was disappointing the Honda :D, next to give up was the Mercs, I had overtaken the Waja, but later I also drive more slowly and safely to the left, allowing the Waja to play with his own self :D

…At Seremban 2, a crashed Waja with its head on the centre divider was seen, till now, I still wonder if that was the same Waja in that night's little street race :S

…Till now, my fastest lap from JB-KL or KL-JB is still at 1hr45mins-2hrs, toll-toll, with a full tank, without rests in between :D

…Back on JB roads, when my girlfriend isn't on my car, my favorite hobby is still to challenge those proud ass S'pore cars, those outsiders with their expensive imported cars like Evo/WRX/Mercs/BMW :D

…Their costs may be high, power/rims/pipes may be big, but their balls seems to be small :D

…It never fails to make me high whenever I beat them in a zig zag street race across the medium-heavy traffic during the nights :D

…My highest high was beating a white Nissan Fairlady from S'pore, maybe life is always more important to those rich young punks :D

…My worst defeat was losing to a truly well mod Wira :D That damn skillful guy earned my salute and respect :D

…Using larger imported cars to beat smaller home grown cars will always be a shame :D

…But, Sad but true, the ladies seem to be attracted only to those bigger imported cars :D

…Will they ever change their thinkings?

…No matter how much I mod my beloved Gen2 whom had saved my life, they will still treat her as another proton car…

    …So disappointing…

…Should I trade her in for another imported car just like those brand conscious proud ass losers?

…I think I just complete her last 1-2yrs of loans, save some cash, then decide again in 2008-2009 :D

…To those proton critics out there, after 3yrs+, my original paint is still as shiny as new, my windows still have not jammed, and after up and down JB-KL within 2hrs at 110-185km/hr countless times, my engine and automatic gear still have not exploded and never had I have a broke down at the roadside, why? :D

…I think its how we truly love our rides, that our rides would love us back :D

…I go for regular service at proton outlets, car wash every week, engine wash every 6mths, K&H air filter, Shell's Red color petrol, STP's engine oil addon at every service, STP's complete petrol cleaning at every 6000km+, seldom parking in the sun, 90% in multi-storey car parks and home's shaded parking lot :D
