2008 Mazda 2 Preview

mazda2_1.jpg

Mazda gives us a preview of it’s new B-segment hatchback, the Mazda 2. Updated to modern Mazda design language, gone is the boxy outlook of it’s predecessor, instead you get a sporty hatch which is reminiscent of the Toyota Yaris. The new Mazda 2 is shorter at 3880mm, however it still keeps an identical wheelbase of 2490mm.

It has a sporty front, with a large air dam flanked by two smaller ones hosting fog lamps, and large headlamps, however I have to disagree with their choice of front grille design - something bigger would have looked better. Trunk space is rated at 250 liters, but with the seats down it enlarges to 469 liters of space. The 2008 Mazda 2 is expected to be unveiled with three engine options, a 1.3 liter petrol (two variants - 74hp/118Nm and 83hp/121Nm), a 1.5 liter petrol (103hp/136Nm) as well as a 1.4 liter turbodiesel.

Two more photos of the rear and side profile after the jump.

the outgoing mazda had that tiny grille design too… probably they are trying to retain that portion of the design.. but good grief it looks fantastic. the black area around the side mirror needs some work though… stamping steel to shape around that area must be tough….

that green paint isnt my choice of colours tho…
circa rm90k like a swift perhaps???

Definitely a good looking car, and with 400+ litres of space, it’s gonna be very useful too!

this is one of the best-looking small hatch around, but the rear glass area is too small.. why do all manufacturers are following this nonsense trend?

armand, small rear glass area is too common nowadays among hatch car manufacturers. If you want big rear glass, you can look for ‘tall-boy’ japanese minicars or the perodua myvi/kelisa.

armandd: a hatch with a big glass area, ends up in something looking like the volvo c30

agree with e-nabill, looks like ford ka. albeit this is bigger.

hopefully for this they will bring in the import from philiphines instead of nippon, then would really give perodua a run for its money ;)

Looks really nice for a hatch! And I like its Mazda headlight design- http://www.automotivemazparts.com/mazda-headlights/ -looks very sporty with it. That tiny grille doesn’t fit to the bulky appearance of Mazda 2.
