SSC Ultimate Aero TT aims to set new speed record

ssc_ultimate_aero_tt.jpg

The car in the image above is the SSC Ultimate Aero TT, an aerodynamic sports car powered by a 6.3 liter twin turbo V8 with 1,183 horsepower on the tap at 6950 rpm - more than the Bugatti Veyron. Torque is a gut twisting 1302Nm at 6,150 rpm.

Let’s put that much torque into context in a real world situation here - test driver Rick Doria said he experienced wheelspin at speeds of 305km/h. What’s amazing is these figures are obtainable using RON92 fuel, which the engine based on a Chevrolet motor was designed to use.

SSC wants to beat the Bugatti Veyron’s current top speed record of 407km/h. The car’s aerodynamic body, which was wind tunnel engineered and tested to be stable at speeds of up to 439km/h, managed to hit 370km/h in it’s most recent test. The test location had only 2 miles of usable road, and at the 370km/h record, the SSC Ultimate Aero TT was only in 6th gear at 56% throttle.

A new test at a location with more suitable conditions is planned, so let’s see if the SSC team manages to achieve a new speed record.

should be a different class as this would be a Track Car instead of Road Car Buggati Veyron!

IMHO in speed challenge, i think the most critical its the tyre!
must have the BEST tyre to suit the track! our life’s its on these 4 rubbers!

    next would be the BRAKES!!!

    this car is road legal!

Very special tyres are needed for this. With this insane beast, it could rip any standard tyres apart! Would be very interesting to see its 439 to 0 km/h braking time as well. Hope it won’t replicate another hamster incident.

1302Nm of torque! What a monster, it’ll need special tyres to put all that power to the ground. I believe it can and will exceed the Veyron’s speed, just look at it; it’s so sleek and flat, plus it’s got more power too!

Its a matter of how fast could you achieve BV’s top speed of 405kmph!
You could do a 500kmph but if it takes forever to reach, than it is still not considered as the fastest.

The veyron is not just about top speed, its an engineering marvel. Don’t really see the point of this SSC.

I think I just came when I heard “wheelspin at 305km/h”

Looks like SSC (Shelby Super Cars) bought over some Lamborghini Diablo lookalike kit car tooling and got to work on it.

    looks ugly!
haha…veyron’s tires were specially designed for high speeds,
    but how about this UATT?

I seriously think that there would be ALOT of drama when the car is reaching it’s top speed. Bugatti spent insane amounts of cash in developing the veyron. This looks like it came out of some used car sales place. One thing’s for sure, its going to be hell trying to stop it. It doesnt even have a rear spoiler to generate down force for stopping.. and it wouldnt perform well in a track either i guess.

My goodness… wheelspin at 305km/h! and it’s a V8 only! 1183bhp! auto engineers sure making anything happen to cars… they should test drive at the same track at which Top Gear use for testing the Veyron.. but why RON92 fuel…

A road legal street car that can run past 400kmh is an engineering marvel. The point is, “it can be done”.

    true that
top speed and acceleration might be beaten

but can it beat the engineering marvel of the bugatti veyron

a supercar, which is as easy to drive as a small hatch back, smaller than a F430, as luxurious as a Bentley, handles like a lotus elise, reliable as a volkswagen, and goes faster than a formula 1 car.

Honestly who cares about straightline speed when it is not usable?

This looks set to be another of those stupid american ’supercars’. fast in a straightline, rubbish in the corners, and looks awful. go back to making muscle cars, we still love you for making them.
