New Ford Focus Artist’s Impression

This is what the next Ford Focus might look like. The current Ford Focus being sold on our local shores was first introduced in 2004, and it’s about time for a mid-life facelift now instead of an all-new model change, but this might be one HUGE facelift as Auto Express says the car will be restyled to have Ford’s latest look that first made it’s debut on the new Mondeo, but somewhat evolved to look more aggressive, very similiar to the cues Volvo took with it’s Volvo XC60 Concept.

Underneath the completely new styling would most likely be the same chassis and engines though, not that that is bad - the Ford Focus with it’s Control Blade rear suspension is one of the best handling cars I’ve ever driven.

Two more shots after the jump.

I can’t quite get why Ford would invest in such an extensive (and expensive) make over for a mid-life facelift. Ford’s previous facelifts have mostly been half arsed jobs, at least in the looks department (cue last generation Mondeo and Focus).

And it’s not like the Focus is lagging so much behind it’s competitors either, the car still looks fresh (the not as state of the art as some of the newer models) and dynamically it is still one of the leaders of it’s segment. Sales are still on the up too (in Europe, not here).

Taking into account that the next generation Focus will probably appear within the next 2 or 3 years (max), a makeover such as this is not financially viable in my opinion. But hell, if they do make it, I can’t say anyone will hate it, coz it looks fabulous innit?

One word : Disappointment. Focus II & III are not worthy successor of Focus I which itself was a huge leap from the era of the Escort.

the rear of this ford focus reminds u of a rather familiar car, bmw 3 series!

it does look like a 3 series hatchback with a ford front, so imagine!

Good styling and design. Eye catchy. Americans do really have a good taste aren’t they ?

Generally, the design is nice, attractive and looks sporty too as what tec96248 said. Hopefully the cabin’s fit and finish & quality improved as Ford has quality issues before.

Well, Volvo is “part of” Ford. Perhaps that’s the reason it is very similiar to the cues Volvo took. No news about the selling. Some sourses saying BMW is interested buying Volvo for its safety technologies and on eye in Alfa Romeo too.

If this is what a Focus will look like, heck, why do they even bother to call it a facelift? Call it an all new Focus instead. That’s what I think of this.

It looks good, but it won’t pleases everyone. It’s just an artist’s impression anyway. (Read the headline). So, no big deal.

Please refer to US Ford’s Website. There are already 2008 Focus which is newer version of our Volvo’s platformed Focus.

azrai: contradictory to what you said… the american ford focus is based on the really really old first generation focus facelifted a thousand times, while ours is already the second generation.

Ahh….that’s more like it. The mk2’s looks disappointed me when it first came out, despite having better handling, better feel, better quality, andall the rest of it.

They’ve decided to be a little more aggressive and radical for mk3, that is if the real thing comes out close to this impression. Best of all, it didn’t look neither boring nor ugly, which is what happened to BMW these days, thanks to the great American designer.

God, I really, really love the rims, and that diffusal kit…….delicious.

  37. gokibin said,

I like this Focus. It makes me want to Focus more on the Focus of why we have production sports cars. Focus more on the aesthetics but never stop Focus-ing on the performance. We must all Focus our attention to the Focus’s aggressive stylings both interior and exterior. Ah… if only I was more Focus-ed in my studies and became a really Focus-ed businessman, I’d be driving this Focus as soon as it’s available. Ha ha ha… Focus on how many Focus’s I used in my Focus-inspired piece. Cheers Ford!

  38. tokmoh said,

    June 30, 2007 @ 4:13 pm

gokibin, Focus is the most underrated car here. It’s better looking inside and outside than the Civic, it’s ride and handling can make the Civic look like it was made of paper, it’s safety is rated 5-star in Euro NCAP, and best of all, it’s now cheaper than the Civic.

    And yet.

How many Focus hv been sold? Since it’s launch way back in 2005, only this year I have finally been able to spot the 2.0S hatchback. Why?

Well, obviously, one carries the Japanese flag, which automatically means it’s ‘reliable’, ‘low maintenance’, and ‘high re-sale value’. The other one……..mysteriously comes into our shores, and nobody knows it at all. Ford Msia has disappointed a Focus fan like you and me for failing to spread the Focus love to the bigger Msian market. Bt nope, just walk down the street and just pick any random guy, he’ll be clueless abt what Focus is, a drug probably. And then you get hanged.

Hmm…the interior picture looks like its from a MPV…the roof slope looks a bit higher than the exterior car picture…and the gear knob position kinda like MPV too

Holy sh**! the focus for 2008 design is so damn ugly…i hope it didnt make it to our shore…design is so…’desperate’ with some air vent behind the front wheel?? anyway, design as expected…very ‘american’
