Honda Malaysia launches 2nd gen Honda Stream

HMSB Honda Stream

Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd has launched the new Honda Stream, the second introduction of the car in our local market, but this time its offered by the principals themselves and comes with a 3 years manufacturer warranty, at a cheaper price than grey importers.

More details after the jump.

HMSB Honda Stream

While the previous Stream was a 2.0 liter unit, this latest generation model is the Stream 1.8, powered by the R18A SOHC i-VTEC engine found in the Honda Civic 1.8S. This engine puts out 140 PS at 6,300rpm and 174Nm of torque at 4,300rpm and is mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox, with 4th and 5th being overdrive gears for better highway fuel economy. It uses an Electric Power Steering and a Drive By Wire throttle.

The car rides on MacPherson struts with a new side cancellation spring at the front, while the rear uses a compact reactive-link double wishbone suspension. The compact rear suspension setup allows for a better third row passenger space. Ride height is now lower by 45mm, helping lower the center of gravity. The car rides on 15 inch wheels wrapped with 205/65R15 tyres.

If you notice, the previous generation Honda Stream (and also the current Civic, Jazz and City) had an A-pillar sub-frame pillar - this extra pillar that is part of the car frame is what results in that little triangular window located at the A-pillar in a cab forward cabin design. This enhances visibility and gives the car a more sedan-like cleaner outer appearance. There is still a small “pillar” that makes up a triangle but it is very thin compared to the previous Stream.

On the interior, you have a tilt and telescopic steering wheel, and an automatic climate control system. Both the second and third row seats can be folded down individually for a flexible seating configuration. The meter panel is of the self-illuminating type and features a multi-info display that can show valuable car data such as current fuel consumption. The audio system is a dual-DIN CD player that supports MP3 with USB and AUX input, connected to a 4-speaker system. It also has keyless entry, and a fully automatic sunroof.

The new Honda Stream is also 10kg lighter than its predecessor thanks to the use of lightweight high-tensile steel in more areas of the body. The body also has Honda’s G-Force Control frame design, which absorbs crash energy more effectively through strategic crumple zones. Other safety features include ABS, EBD and dual front SRS airbags. Sadly, there are none of the more advanced safety features available like Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Traction Control System (TCS), and Collision Mitigation Brake System (CMBS).

The new Honda Stream is available in four colours - Premium White Pearl, Alablaster Silver Metallic, Royal Blue Pearl and Nighthawk Black Pearl. It costs RM149,800 OTR with insurance, comes with a 3 year warranty and 6 months free service. Look out for a test drive report soon.

nice car, sweet interior but the Price ….?? don’t you think it is abit too high?
with the expected petrol price increase, i just wonder how many malaysian can affort this?
any idea what is the FC? i think it should be around 8l~10l/100km

At least the price is cheaper than posted by NAZA! Car buyers that can afford to purchase anything above RM100K do not normally bothered about FC bro. If one worried about the fuel price hike, then one should consider “bicycle” as alternative …

yes common sensor, maybe you are right.
those rich ppl out there doesnt bother about FC.
but we as average earner do…..

I think this car is imported directly from Japan. Sure they gonna be cheaper then those AP kings who think can earn a car from us RM30k easily.. (comparing to naza 180k stream)

But why no 2.0L i-vtec found in the civic? I prefer that engine for more better torque to move around.

FIRST depend on your RIGHT FOOT, second not that bad if you consider Wish which is Stream has slightly better FC at 6.8l/100km.

I drive a toyota wish 2.0. Probably the stream 1.8 will be OK if you use it as a five seater but if you pack 7 people with luggage and go up to genting you’ll be on 1st and 2nd gear all the way.The previous stream had a 2.0, wonder why the downgrade, possibly to undercut the wish/grandis? Still think the best buy at the moment is the grandis which is good value for money but don’t know about the resale value compared to toyota and honda.I like the mazda 5 for the looks and motorised sliding doors but somehow the last row legroom is a bit cramped.

149K for 1.8L! Still look pricey to average earner.

In open market, it should sale around RM 85K. Then a lot of people will buy it.

Y couldn’t it get any CHEAPER????!?!?!?!?!

Cant really compare this with the one from Naza. Naza Stream is RS version which is a sporty version.

The issue is more on the price. I believe RM136K is more likely the “right” price. For 149K, I would consider a Camry 2.0G.

The car definitely looks great. It grows on me. But, I dislike the idea of using the fuel thrifty 1.8 lump. I’ve tested the 2.0 CRV which this 1.8 SOHC is derived from and it felt so sluggish with the 1st 50% input of gas pedal. I won’t believe the new Stream with lighter weight can beat its heavier bro. My Civic 2.0s iVtec engine should be in it. I don’t mind to pay additional RM10k for that.

heard that Brunei is reducing their car price by 20% next year. that is because they have to increase the fuel price. so a 1.8civic might cost around BD30k? that is about RM70k. But our beloved G did nothing but increasing only..

Does anyone mention about sunroof? I saw this Stream yesterday in the show room. It does come with a sunroof. But missing arm rest. Although the 3rd row seat leg space has improved but still need more. I agree that the engine need to improve to 2.0 iVTEC.

price too high, 149K for i-vtec SOHC, CBU Thailand, nowday market still got a lot of selection on 149K, like mazda 5
btw, saw this car at showroom, interior and design not bad, but the air cond set at front area only, and who sit at behind, will be feel hot and warm, like Toyota Wish.

There was something abt the previous STREAM that I didn’t like, the part after the C-pillar. Honda still couldn’t get it again with this new model. Everything from front bumper to c - pillar is ok but not after. the version that’s offered here looks like a super low spec model. let’s see what the new WISH looks like.

  28. williaml said,

CBU from Thailand Toyota Wish 2.0L at RM157K
CBU from Japan Honda Stream 1.8L at RM149K
    CBU from Japan Mazda5 2.0L at RM158K

    Don’t you think Stream overpriced?

Hmmm, i like the previous Stream styling more. Yes agree on the 1.8 engine…too weak for a 7-pax mover. Go Genting sure suffer teruk. In US, a 7-pax MPV typically powered with 3.0L V6 engine; a 2.4L/2.5L is ok acceptable; 2.0L is already a compromise; 1.8L is too much compromise. Better just buy the CRV…at least CRV is 2.0L.

Langkawi OTR price for Stream 1.8L is RM 80,800
for CRV 2.0L is RM 103,800
so, The AP cost is RM 25,000????

Vehicles sold to Langkawi/Labuan are tax-exempted (Excise 8 instead of Excise 7). CBU Japan 1.8L category vehicles are therefore free of excise duty (85%) and import duty (30%). Don’t be so sarcastic about AP bro …

sad to say honda, the previous stream facelift version was a complete disaster….too xpensive at 157k and u’re gonna let history repeat itself.

10 kg lighter?hows that effect its power to weight ratio??probably improved its power compared to previous 1.8 stream..but no VSA, TCS and etc with that kind of tagprice is one reason to consider other models..anyhow love the more masculine curves on this new stream..

    so many people comparing the new strem against Mazda 5, Grandis, Wish I’ll tell you what ;
    1. Grandis is 2.4litres with 4 speed. Its also 6 years old model. You know how much it will swallow petrol ? You should compare Grandis against Estima.
    2. Mazda 5 is good-looking….5 years ago. Its also the smallest in its class. The 3rd row is even smaller then Wish.
    3. Wish is a good comparison. But again, its 4 years old model. For 200c more, you are buying a made-in-Thailand for the same price as a made-in-Japan Stream ? What would you prefer ? Furthermore the whole KL is full of Wish oledi. At least for a Stream the next 2 years will still be a “new” model !
