Volkswagen’s EcoRacer was taken to the race tracks for a spin by 34 motor journalists from 9 countries. The journalists covered 1200km over 3 days at a racetrack in Pau, South of France.

“We took this unusual step to let people see for themselves that fascination, sportiness and excellent handling can be combined with fuel efficiency. The EcoRacer impressively passed this test without any breakdowns at the racetrack in Pau. This concept car proves that fuel economy and sportiness are not mutually exclusive”, said Matthias Rabe, Volkswagen AG head of Group Research.

A quick recap on the EcoRacer stats as I’ve blogged about it before, it weighs 850kg and goes from 0-100km/h in 6.3 seconds. It’s 1.5 litre turbodiesel rates at 136ps and 250Nm torque, has a top speed of 230km/h and has an amazing average fuel consumption of 3/4 litres per 100km.
