The Nissan Titan is Nissan’s full-sized pick-up truck offering in the US, and is powered by a 5.6 litre 32 valve V8 engine codenamed VK56DE, making 317 horsepower and 522Nm of torque at 3,600rpm. It uses the same ladderframe platform as many other Nissan trucks, including the Nissan Frontier available here on local shores.
Nissan wants to change this from being a petrol-only offering to one that has a diesel option by 2009, proving that more and more manufacturers are responding to a growing interest in diesel vehicles in petrol-loving America.
The new diesel engine will be built by U.S. truck and engine maker Navistar International Corp. For it to have more torque than the petrol’s 522Nm, it would need to be at least a 3.0 to 3.5 litre I suppose. A modern turbodiesel around that size could make between 600 to 700Nm of torque.

american love to waste petrol
the are true petrol heads….cos af all the hotrods there…….and streetrods too
If this happens, it'll be bigger then a 3.0L or 3,5L motor. GM, Ford and Chrysler diesels are in some cases almost double the size of that. GM's is 6,5 by Duramax, the Ford, they're using a Navistar built motor as well, which used to be 7,3L! but is now 6,xL and the Cummins used by Chrysler in the Ram is 5,9L still I think. The Ford and GM are both V8s, while the Chrysler is an I6. No way would a small 3,0L-3,5L motor cut it in the full size pick up market here in the US.
i wonder y dont P.Bush dont cooperate on global warming……
man BMW X5 3.0D already push out 500nm…still need a 600 to 700nm in a truck with the back cabin kosong? that will be crazy wheel spinning!!
TomBoiNY, are u American?
Yes, the Duramx and the Cummins are large, but they are for 2500/Super Duty and larger trucks.
I'm sure the north american truck market could use a smaller diesel. It might not appeal to yer regular redneck but unless you need to yank a tractor or a 60ft boat, a good 3.5L diesel ought to be enough for light duty jobs (ala 1500 or compact pickups).
I'm sure Nissan is leveraging a lot of French diesel knowhow
