Volkswagen’s Head of Exterior Design Mark Lichte shares with us the design process in coming up with the new Volkswagen Scirocco coupe (more like a lower and wider 3-door hatch), which was first introduced to us as the Volkswagen iroc Concept.
Lichte described the task as “to design the sportiest Volkswagen ever made”, and that could be true as while cars like the Golf GTI and Golf R32 are scorchers in their own right, they look like normal hatchbacks with an aggressive kit slapped on.
Watch the two-part interview videos after the jump, as well as a few more videos on the Volkswagen Scirocco.

Quite nice in white.
While the Sciroco looks nice, I would have loved for VW to make a fastback hatch, more in line to the shape of the Corrado.
Afterall, it is supposed to look “sporty”…this is still too Golf’ish.
But if i’m not mistaken, there are Corrado Concept pictures floating around. Maybe VW will make that too. I have fond memories of the Corrado. I had a G60 for a few years.
looks great..jus doesnt dig da badge positions at da front..mayb they should jus remove it..or place it sum place else..
looks good. but somehow its just a golf gti in a better looking suit rather than an all out new model. will depends how much the premium is compared to the gti.
i thought the guy was going to show us some mathematical calculations why the scirocco is worth buying compared to a golf gti.
i hope they dont skimp on the rear suspension like they are going to in the next golf.
