Armored Jaguar XJ Sentinel to debut at Moscow 2010

Mercedes-Benz has their MB GUARD program and BMW has their Security division. If you want to be secure in something a little different, Jaguar has a solution for you – the new Jaguar XJ Sentinel which offers ballistic protection of up to the B7 level, blast protection against 15kg TNT equivalent detonated within close proximity of the vehicle, and substantial under floor grenade protection.

The new long wheelbase only Jaguar XJ Sentinel’s protective capabilities is certified by QinetiQ, a globally recognised independent blast and ballistic testing organisation. It comes with a full 3 year or 50,000 mile factory warranty as well as comprehensive after-sales support from specialised technicians.

Armored Jaguar XJ Sentinel to debut at Moscow 2010

“The XJ Sentinel was designed and developed in partnership with industry leaders, and incorporates the very latest armoured vehicle systems to deliver extremely impressive levels of protection, while maintaining a very discreet appearance,” said the company’s Managing Director Mike O’Driscoll.

Because of the heavy weight of the Sentinel protection, it’s 385 PS 515Nm 5.0 litre normally aspirated AJ-V8 can only take it from 0 to 100km/h in 9.5 seconds. The car’s top speed is just 195km/h. Wonder why Jaguar didn’t use the 510 PS supercharged model, but the XJ Sentinel does get the better brakes from the supercharged model.

not much specs given here… perhaps they also wan to protect their info, only to be given to selected clientele. maybe it comes with 6 magnum handguns and a dozen of hand grenades too… for self defence. hehe… perhaps add in a Jane Bond would be great! However, this is not the car for the mass market…. it only goes for those who are really influentialin the global business world.

  • Hi Paul,

I am wondering if in the future, manual transmission cars will drop in resale value due to now almost everybody wants auto-transmission cars. What’s your view? Pls advice.

VO, I think the situation would be the opposite. Manual cars will have higher resale value because there will be only a few of them in the future. Manual version of Japanese & Continental cars from the 90’s for example have higher resale value compared to the auto version.

  • I always wonder how they test these armored vehicles, especially the blast/grenade/explosive tests. Must be pretty exciting, like those Top Gear tests. :)

wats the point of building an armoured car but cannot accelerate fast??even my std satria neo can cucuk blakang ma… what about if the shooter chasing this heavy beast and keep on shooting them??haha. lama2 KO jugak ma…if they build it with more powerful engine, it would be relevant coz if you are in the car and being shot, definitely you want to ran away from the shooter as fast as you can…nice design but DEADLY speed

    offtopic>>

how the “bulletproof” testing is done?
    firing a stationary BP car?
firing a moving BP car in same direction?
firing a moving BP car in opposite direction?

will these conditions reflect the overall bulletproofness?

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0
    • It’s done by firing at a stationary BP car (I saw a TV report about this).

“Armored” is not “armored” btw. Cars with the highest protection class are only sold to gouvernments or to industry leaders with gouvernment approval and will be taken back after their livetime cycle for scrapping. No chance to get a second-hand ‘B7’ car… ;)

B7 stands for the german “Beschussklasse 7” and is the highest ballistic protection class. A ‘B7’ Mercedes S500 is 80% heavier than a standard S500, the thickness of the window glass is approx. 10cm!

Cars with the lowest protection class, i.e. the armored BMW 5 series, are sold free in countries like Russia or Brasil, in Mexico the armored 3 series is quite popular.

Hopefully, this kind of cars will never become popular (necessary) in Malaysia… ;)

TQ Mohd for simple & understandable explanation :)

i’ve gone thru’ the handy wiki, but found out that the german’s wiki have more insight than english’s wiki.

  • Thanks, armandd. I didn’t know that. I tot that manual cars will have lower resale value. I am thinking of getting a manual Viva 1.0.
