While it sounds like a bit of a stretch, customers really won’t mind it. According to reports, Volkswagen’s new Passat will be produced in China, with plans to offer a stretched version to the regular one as well.
The B7 Passat will likely be made by FAW-VW, which builds the previous B6 version, called the Magotan. Alongside the standard sedan, the long-wheelbase variant is expected to be 120mm longer than the European model of the type – with the Passat favoured as a chauffeur-driven car in the Chinese market, a roomier rear would be just dandy for most.
No other details as yet, but with the B7 slated to make its market debut in China in early 2011, expect more news on it in the months to come.

whats with strecthed versions? why only in china they got a lot? is it the luxury factor for the chinese people?
i recall some people saying this is the age of china, that it is leading the automotive sector and how they evolve from petty communist state into world finest engineering place bla bla bla bla
no. it isnt about something non other than money. now money comes out from there. thats why these makers going there. yes its all about money.
are chinese people the tallest human being in the world? or they have the habit of stretching their legs while on board? really funny ha?..some idiot billionaires have idiot habits… even the world’s youngest billionaire( the founder of facebook ) drives normal wheelbase car. he just doesn’t want to show off…
not all billionaire drives normal decent cars, only a few.
well, there is demand in China for stretched cars, so let them be. why you’re so emotional??
of there is demand, thats why they all gone there. but all he wanted was to know what kinda of mindset the chinese people got when they ordered for a longer wheelbase vehicles. thats all
excuse him for the show off line although i had that as well in my mind
keh keh keh
China population is over 1 billion that’s why it seems alot of people asking for longer wheelbase. Is actually very small if compared to a smaller population country.
if only malaysia has 100 million people, the cars will definitely be cheaper. toll will be non-taxing, almost every other thing will be cheaper because demand will be high as well.
if only….
have you ever see China Basketball Team/Player? Yao Ming …Sun Mingming…Zhang Zhaoxu…just to name few….
maybe later, ferrari will offer a strecthed version of F599. or even Dino.
i am wondering how does a stretched Satria Neo looks like? kih kih kih….
thy are not the tallest , thats the point , thy have inferiority complex! dats y thy want big, long and so on….its psychological i suppose!
Yawn…so emo la..if ur a billionaire,up to u la.
mind you, some ppl will act like they’re not showing off IN ORDER to show off.*sociological fact*
one word for you.EMO.
lol blame your government lo…
Same “streched” version of Passat is build in Chattanooga TN (USA). The american twin of the chinese Passat will start in mid $19,000. Difference between chinese car and american car…more luxury content for chinese version (center console with air vents and more chrom)
if a VW comes from China is it acceptable?
The Passat for the chinese Market comes from China.
For other markets, the Passat is build in Emden / Germany.
BTW: This has nothing to do with quality. VW China simply don’t have enough capacity for export, they need all cars they make for the local market… ;)
the chinese is smart! cars sale in our country is much expensive than others, why not we request the longer version ?
coz the dealer here…longer or not they don’t care….
laziness of Malaysian….ignorant of them….I mean those dealer…
then…becomes a habit….that’s why Malaysia being so slow in development….
never hope for a longer version here la
well being expensive doesnt really give u longer wheelbase. its the money and selling-ability.
even if i am to be suddenly rich, i wont ask for longer wheelbase car.it just wrong. it looked wrong. of course it will handle wrong because of the extended distance between front and back drive.
i would be sitting just nice inside an S350. that… long enough for me. keh keh keh
i’d rather hav a S350L/740iL .there’s significant difference in size between normal n longer-wheelbase vehicles.they’re somehow more comfy and less claustrophobic.
this is typical metal-for-money mindset. I think luckily our rakyat here are not all prone to long wheelbase cars, else i can’t imagine how some gorgeous car would look like……imagine the stretch version of mitsubishi lancer GT?? Civic?? 3 Series?? C-Class?? New Sonata?? New Optima?? can’t imagine……
ever remember Perdana Executive? it was sold 160K and yet only the G used them as offical cars. how about the lesser models like Wira Executive and Saga/Iswara Executive? it didnt sell well here coz relatively theres no market here.
Why i m not surprised…..??? oh yes, there are plentiful more stretched cars in China. Wondering when we’ll see stretched Jetta or even Polo sedan in China…….
later u see they request a stretched smart-for-two……
yaaa..they don’t want smart-for-four
they just need anything small but STRETCHEEEEEEEEED
smartfortwelve, perhaps??
current trend……share platform….good cooperation….
west and east..
everything also wanna stretched…
hopefully VW use melamine to stretch their cars….
China will hand the VW boss to death…then VW gone from china world…it good they can choose other brand give other company for bigger cake
VW has been around manufacturing cars in China for more than 10 years, infact they are the 1st one to enter China. That is why so many VW taxi in China like junk cars already. Whoever said VW cars are super good quality, please visit Shanghai…
