China to get stretched version of new Volkswagen Passat

passat-sedan

While it sounds like a bit of a stretch, customers really won’t mind it. According to reports, Volkswagen’s new Passat will be produced in China, with plans to offer a stretched version to the regular one as well.

The B7 Passat will likely be made by FAW-VW, which builds the previous B6 version, called the Magotan. Alongside the standard sedan, the long-wheelbase variant is expected to be 120mm longer than the European model of the type – with the Passat favoured as a chauffeur-driven car in the Chinese market, a roomier rear would be just dandy for most.

No other details as yet, but with the B7 slated to make its market debut in China in early 2011, expect more news on it in the months to come.

          • China population is over 1 billion that’s why it seems alot of people asking for longer wheelbase. Is actually very small if compared to a smaller population country.

if only malaysia has 100 million people, the cars will definitely be cheaper. toll will be non-taxing, almost every other thing will be cheaper because demand will be high as well.

            if only….

    • Same “streched” version of Passat is build in Chattanooga TN (USA). The american twin of the chinese Passat will start in mid $19,000. Difference between chinese car and american car…more luxury content for chinese version (center console with air vents and more chrom)

    • The Passat for the chinese Market comes from China.

For other markets, the Passat is build in Emden / Germany.

BTW: This has nothing to do with quality. VW China simply don’t have enough capacity for export, they need all cars they make for the local market… ;)

well being expensive doesnt really give u longer wheelbase. its the money and selling-ability.

even if i am to be suddenly rich, i wont ask for longer wheelbase car.it just wrong. it looked wrong. of course it will handle wrong because of the extended distance between front and back drive.

i would be sitting just nice inside an S350. that… long enough for me. keh keh keh

i’d rather hav a S350L/740iL .there’s significant difference in size between normal n longer-wheelbase vehicles.they’re somehow more comfy and less claustrophobic.

this is typical metal-for-money mindset. I think luckily our rakyat here are not all prone to long wheelbase cars, else i can’t imagine how some gorgeous car would look like……imagine the stretch version of mitsubishi lancer GT?? Civic?? 3 Series?? C-Class?? New Sonata?? New Optima?? can’t imagine……

ever remember Perdana Executive? it was sold 160K and yet only the G used them as offical cars. how about the lesser models like Wira Executive and Saga/Iswara Executive? it didnt sell well here coz relatively theres no market here.

VW has been around manufacturing cars in China for more than 10 years, infact they are the 1st one to enter China. That is why so many VW taxi in China like junk cars already. Whoever said VW cars are super good quality, please visit Shanghai…
