A white Volkswagen Polo sedan has been sighted again, this time by reader sonyman. The Polo was snapped while it was traveling on the LDP near 1 Utama. It turned off into TTDI along together with the Volkswagen Passat that was snapped together with the white car last week in Port Dickson.

Comments on the VW Polo 1.6 Sedan focus on its pricing, with many expecting it to be between RM70k-90k to compete with models like the Vios and City. Several commenters compare it favorably to other hatchbacks and sedans, noting it may be cheaper than the Polo 1.2TSI and emphasizing its potential value for money. There is skepticism about the final price, with some predicting it could be over RM100k, which might hinder sales. Others mention that the imported model likely uses older technology, such as the 1.6 FSI engine, and express concerns about limited service centers and parts. Overall, the sentiments are a mix of anticipation for an affordable, competitive VW sedan and concern about pricing and practicality in the Malaysian market.
as expected….if that badged is to believed its gonna be that first generation fsi 1.6 they use in the current beetle and mk5 golf ….its a lil rough but gets the job done….
I think they are using the one in india, so, there will be no dsg use in the car as well. If it is fsi, they will put there 1.6 fsi instead of just 1.6.
probably same as india car as it is right hand drive. cheaper for vw to take direct from india as no need to redevelop to rhd. so how about this? bratwurst with curry!
If that is the price, it will be too expensive and hardly sell well. I personnally prefer Honda Civic 1.8 LS With leather seats. very honest. lot will buy honda civic if can afford that price and still got 5k left. Above 1ook sorry never buy.
dont think it be priced at 100k above as it offers no current VW technology.
No TSI, no FSI, probably to compete in the B segment market against Ford Fiesta. It may have the normal 1.6 engine with a DSG system and probably priced about 85 to 90K range.
agak la,if Fiesta 1.6 cost less than 80k,why should this Polo Sedan cost around 125k,considering that the parts probably will come from India,it will cost around Vios,City price.
IMHO… dont think it will be more expensive than Polo 1.2 TSI.. hatchback always fetchs a premium moreover Polo TSI packed with turbo + DGS (more towards performance) while the up coming polo sedan will be entry level for VW (strip down version) to compete in B-segment..
I’m sure they will try to price it around rm80k-90k to fight with the b-segment market.. any lower than that they need to put a manual transmission to bring the price down.
not much to be excited about this car, it was not camouflaged because this is actually a production car. i believe the car is undergoing reliability test in malaysia’s climate.
If can sell at 85 to 95k… then VW will make an impact to T and the H.
Otherwise cannot capture the market….
The other issue is service and parts. Currently this is lacking.
If they are really serious about making it big here then they need to
invest millions of ringgit for infrastructure.
I’d rather they sell it at RM90k to fight the Japanese. Why kill off another European brand when the Europeans are trying hard to penetrate the Malaysian market? The Europeans must be seen as strong and together instead of killing off each other. This is my personal opinion lah and I respect the views of others that will differ from me.
Your point is there. But different company still fight for each other. Peugeot is sell by Naza.. Different story already ma
+ how to fight Japanese or even Korean brand at RM90k with limited Service Centre? You dont tell me VW polo is too reliable that no need go service centre. Toyota Vios is famous for reliability. VW polo(hatchback) has some recall history.
VW is also quite reasonable reliable anyhow. If the Polo sedan can priced about the range of Peugeot 207, with increased quantity of Service Centre by at least 2x. Then the sale pf VW will increase gradually.
If they price it at rm100k+ with limited Service Centre. The result will still be the same: fail to conquer the market.
They should really consider the strategy, Lower price, but more buyer, more profit.
Vios and City is around 7xK and Pug was intention to complet with them. Now possible add in VW in this segment.FYI Friday …VW and Pug is difference company and difference distributor. They do not gang up and kill of Japs.Ok ..All they want is market share $$$!
badge buyers will definitely buy it regardless of the 105hp engine and the (possible) lack of everything else as it is supposed to be built to a price. it is afterall a vw isn’t it?
Exactly! Why do the is not allowing the Rakyat to buy quality car at the best price? so not rakyat friendly! So much of Inflation. Many of stuff in the market rises alot if compare to 2 years ago.
N please ask the US, German, Japan, South Korea and even China to lift their protection with their car industry.. Owh don’t forget India, other EU nation, and all other country in the world.. Only Arab nation don’t have car’s industry protection.
Nonsense, our local cars aren’t all that cheap and the foreign cars are taxed heavily, unlike those countries you’ve mentioned. Plus, GDP-wise we aren’t even near their level…
I hope they do not overprice themselves out of the market. Initial reports say that the Passat will go head on with the Camry 2.4, Accord, Mazda 6 and Teanna. It will sell for about RM170k, which I think is reasonable. The Polo is another ball game alltogether because that sector is overcrowded, and with the Koreans and Japanese having a stranglehold on the market. For example, just look at the Forte, with 6 speeds, blue tooth and option of a 2litre motor, and the Civic’s 7th generation model coming soon. The Mazda is making inroads and is even offerrng the high performance MPS. Not to mention also Proton, which may even plunk a GPS, in their models if competition gets hotter. With this scenario, the Polo has got it;s work cut out for it.
Hatchbacks are usually more expensive than sedans, because the rear hatch door is more expensive than the trunk. But in some countries where the people prefer hatchbacks, those government make sure the hatchbacks are cheaper than sedan, because the hatchbacks have smaller dimension.
For the Pug 207 sedan, it’s cheaper than new 207 hatch as the sedan uses older platform. But I think the Polo sedan is overlengthed in the segment, like Fiesta sedan and City, while the 207 sedan is a restored 206 sedan, so it’s not overlenghted.
it will price itself to death…Rm100k we have so many options now..thats very good to the market. VW wanted to price themselves as Euro brand, dont be surprise its RM120K. Just below the Accord.
Peugeot, Ford and Chevy are also Conti brands and their B-segment price are very competative…. VW branded as “People’s Car”, why cant they be priced competative as well !!
they should be rebranded as the ‘Rich People’s Car’. they are no longer the same vw they started out as. and that is, to have affordable cars for the ordinary guy.
Seems like it’s coming fast… since City high spec is selling at RM90k, this Polo sedan should be anytime cheaper than that, unless they are using the 1.2 TSI with DSG…
looks bland next to the vios?????…all the sedans in the b segment look bland….thats what happens when u convert hatches into sedans…..they make do with designs…anybody that says a vios looks good really needs to visit an optician or somethin…..
Please don’t compare Japanese car with european car.
If we are more concern
1. Aftermarket support and service
2. reliability under Tropical climate, engine, electronic stuff, etc
3. fuel consumption
4. resale value
then please choose japanese brand.
even the Germans also found out to maintain a car in their country also will cost a lot of money.
Anyway, if the budget suit us, why not try something different ? because we are buying the brand instead of the latest engineering as offer by the Koreans or Japanese.
Please put this car in the range of 70-90k or many people will prefer Kia forte, Inspira, vios, city, perhaps some willing to wait for the latest Hyundai Avante.
So, what ever car suit my budget, that’s the only brand i can afford anyway regardless any brand…
You are telling crap when you said that Korean and Japanese have the latest engineering. If you have been research and know about cars, Continental are 15 years ahead of korjap in car technology. German cant be more expensive to maintain than a korjap. A latest german engine can last up to 25000 km for each services. Can any of korjap match that and not burnt the engine? Any of the car have high resale value today in Malaysia except perodua? A german engine can reach japanese hybrid consumption and emission without using hybrid electric motor. If you said that korjap is more fuel efficient than continental, you are living in the 1980s. With latest european engine technology and latest gearbox like dsg, the car is much more efficient and powerful than korjap if compare apple to apple. German can produce cars with max power, low emmission, low consumption, low cc and hence lower tax. can any of korjap makers do that? Forte, inspira, vios, city are just not worth with the price. they can be said worst built car at that price range especially vios and city. please go and test a peugeot oor ford which is at the same price range and you will say they are just a better trishaw. If you have not know about car technology, i suggest u read ” car technology for dummies” before making comments
Thank you, golf gti lover as I can see it based on your comment.
I’m referring to the topic that we discuss, “VW Polo” and stressed on the price range between 70-90K.
I’m not comparing with the Top of the line for German, Japanese or Korean in terms of theirs engineering which is not the topic of discussion.
But, I do believe a Honda City, forte or a slightly higher chevrolet cruze is fully packed with advance technology can beat a VW Polo, value of money anytime.
I never questioned German engineering from very beginning nor underestimate Japanese and Korean Engineering or technology. They are very competitive.
German manufactured Mercedes Benz S class, Korean manufactured Hyundai Genesis, Japanese manufactured Lexus for the luxury segment.
While Germans have Smart for 2, Japanese have Toyota iq, korean (I think don’t have the similar size to compare, correct me if I am wrong)
I’m just sharing my point and stressed on the price range to 70K-90K. I wouldn’t buy a VW Polo because of the brand name if more than 100K while my budget only limit me to 90K max. Solution, any car in this range will be consider.
So please, don’t assume and generalize. When other people have different point of view, it does not mean that they are telling crap. Is just the way other people think and in reality, as typical buyer, any car suit their budget and will be consider.
Lastly, thanks for your recommendation on the “car technology for dummies” which I think I may not have the time to read it. That’s why I prefer to read it in Paultan.org instead a book.
at India:
VW Polo Sedan Petrol Trendline Price: Rs 7,02,883 INR.
VW polo Sedan Diesel Trendline Price: Rs 8,03,439 INR.
VW polo Sedan Petrol Highline Price: Rs 8,28,075 INR.
VW Polo Hatchback Petrol Comfortline 1.2L Price: Rs 4,97,381 INR.
VW Polo Hatchback Diesel Trendline 1.2L Price: Rs 5,46,818 INR.
VW Polo Hatchback Petrol Highline 1.2L Price: Rs 5,87,678 INR.
VW Polo Hatchback Diesel Comfortline 1.2L Price: Rs 5,97,767 INR.
VW Polo Hatchback Petrol Highline 1.6L Price: Rs 6,16,000 INR.
VW Polo Hatchback Polo Diesel Highline 1.2L Price: Rs 6,88,567 INR
The conclusion here is POLO SEDAN is MORE EXPENSIVE than POLO HATCHBACK.
Pfftt.. No need think of buying such entry car dy!
I think your comparison is unfair because the Polo 1.2L in India is the normal 1.2L NA Petrol Engine, not 1.2L TSI selling in Malaysia ..further more Msia’s Polo uses DSG tranny and Polo sedan might strip down to normal tranny gear box for affordability.. Conclusion, the current Polo TSI selling in Msia is a performance supermini and its 1.2 TSI engine + DSG gearbox cost a bomb..
Hey, what about this:
VW Polo Hatchback Petrol Highline 1.6L Price: Rs 6,16,000 INR.
This uses the same engine as the VW Polo Sedan. Both the sedan and the hatch use the same engine, but the hatch is cheaper, may be the conclusion is still Sedan more expensive then VW polo hatch.
I think we are interested to see how polo sedan is being priced against Polo 1.2TSI since the Polo 1.2TSI is the only reference we have.. I know Polo Hatchback 1.6L is cheaper than Polo Sedan 1.6 but since Polo Hatchback 1.6L is not coming to Msia, no point looking at that.. Are you thinking Polo Hatchback 1.2TSI is comparable to Polo Hatchback 1.6L? No way~
My point is, Polo Sedan 1.6L will be cheaper than Polo 1.2TSI, thus Polo Sedan will be still be a bargain and might position itself to challenge Vios and City.. disagree with your “No need think of buying such entry car dy!”
