Audi tips hand to reveal Pikes Peak racer – it’s an RS5

This one is plucked right out of Audi USA’s Facebook page. They’re not telling much other than revealling the face of the RS5, which also gives us a peek at the livery. A quick read of the Pikes Peak competitor’s list shows five Audi’s are competing, although none of them are the RS5. A mystery.

We’ve talked about the RS5 before, when it was unveiled in the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Briefly, it the RS5 is powered by a 4.2 FSI V8 that generates 444 hp and 430 Nm of torque. It accomplishes the century sprint in 4.6 seconds. The engine is paired with a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch gearbox. We’re not sure if Audi will be racing the car as ‘stock’ or if the car has been tuned to meet the demands of the race. We hope to get more info near race day, which is this coming Sunday.

Audi USA ended their post with a video of the Sport Quattro S1 racing up to the pinnacle of Pikes Peak. It is quite a spectacle, so enjoy.

I had a great time at the Pike’s Peak Hill Climb Fan Fest this year, it was brilliant!! The Red Bull Moto Jump Team killed it, and the RED BULL GIRLS were smokin’ hotttt as they served free drinks to me and the rest of the crowd! The audience went crazy as the RED BULL SKYDIVE TEAM touched down right on their mark every time as all the nearby pub’s balconies, patios , or rooftops were packed with spectators. What impressed me the most was how friendly the racers were to the public and genuinely were eager to meet the fans and take pictures, sign autographs, or even just chatting with us. No NASCAR egos here. Just a cool bunch of people meeting up to say “Thanks for the support” or “Good luck on Sunday!”.We went home with tons of free gifts from all the vendors. I tried to get to everything, but the fun ended at 10pm, so I’ll definitely be back next year.
