VIDEO: 2017 Cadillac XT5 SUV teased via NYC flyby

The folks at Cadillac certainly know how to make a splash when they go about teasing a new vehicle. Here we have a video of the upcoming 2017 Cadillac XT5 crossover being hauled by a helicopter to be displayed on a ‘flying fashion runway’ above the Hudson River in New York City.

This publicity stunt was done as part of the New York fashion week kickoff, to announce Cadillac’s partnership with fashion house Public School. “This is a new way for two American brands to join forces, share a passion for design and grow globally. For Cadillac, it gives new meaning to being a patron of the arts,” said Andrew Smith, Cadillac executive director of global design.

There is also a 15-second teaser video of the luxury crossover that shows close-ups of its seat, steering wheel and materials used for the crossover; and a brief shot of the front end. The lack of clarity in the videos is not a big issue, as official pics of the XT5 have been released.

Reports suggest that the XT5 is based on GM’s new ‘Chi’ platform that is expected to be the foundation of the company’s future crossovers.

In terms of powertrains, there are rumours that it could possibly use engines from the 2016 Cadillac CT6, which include a turbocharged 265 hp 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine, a 335 hp 3.6 litre V6 engine and a 400 hp twin-turbo 3.0 litre V6. In the CT6, all three engine options are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, so perhaps the XT5 could adopt the same layout.

Is this the replacement for the similar looking Cadillac SRX? We test drove the SRX some time ago while away and it’s very civilized. Could do well in our local market. Similar size as the Lexus RX except better looking.
