Mitsubishi XM Concept – first pix of Honda BR-V rival

In the run-up to the 2016 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) next week, Mitsubishi has finally revealed the first photos of its upcoming seven-seater SUV show car, the Mitsubishi XM Concept. Described as fusing “the toughness of an SUV with the versatility of an MPV” – something that’s reflected in the name, “X” for crossover, “M” for MPV – it should take the fight to the new hotly-anticipated Honda BR-V.

As seen in the first teaser image, the XM features Mitsubishi’s new Dynamic Shield front end design, with slit-like headlights flanking a large black grille. The flared wheel arches and sculpted character line give it a strong look that is typical of an SUV, while a sleek cab-forward profile and a “floating roof” illusion given by the blacked-out D pillar creates a free-flowing MPV look. Unfortunately, there’s no rear-end shot provided.

There’s no photo of the interior either, but Mitsubishi said that the three rows of seats have been positioned optimally to allow all seven to sit in comfort, as well as allowing for a variety of seat arrangements. The interior features a horizontal dashboard with a wide elevated centre console, a black-and-white colour scheme and silver accents to provide a refined look.

Mitsubishi has already revealed that the production version will be built starting from October 2017, at a new plant in Bekasi, West Java. Aside from the XM, the company will also showcase the facelifted Mirage and new Pajero Sport.

So ugly. No wonder Mitsubishi is nearing bankruptcy and here in Malaysia, nobody buys their cars.
