Audi’s departure from the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) marks the end of an era that spans 18 years, which is why the company has released this solemn farewell to one of its most successful motorsport outings.
With a cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s Homeward Bound playing in the background, we see Audi vehicles from different places making their way “home.” In this case, they all have their navigation systems set to the Circuit des 24 Heures du Mans, the venue for the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans.
From there, we see an Audi LMP racer going on one last hurrah on the track, one of many race cars that secured wins between the years of 2000 and 2014.
Audi’s exit from endurance racing is followed by a greater emphasis on the all-electric Formula E race series, with plans to join as a factory-backed team in 2017. The company will also soldier on with its DTM programme, and could continue to participate in the World Rallycross Championship.
