Hyundai Tucson 1.6 T-GDI turbo debuts – RM145,588

Hyundai Tucson 1.6 T-GDI turbo debuts – RM145,588

That was quick. Earlier today, we reported on the indicative pricing for the new turbocharged variant of the third-gen Hyundai Tucson, and now, the model has arrived on the scene, with Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors officially announcing the introduction of the Tucson 1.6L T-GDI.

The Tucson turbo is priced at RM145,588 on-the-road without insurance, exactly as that suggested in the earlier post. It’s powered by a 1.6 litre turbocharged and direct-injected T-GDI petrol engine, which is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The mill is good for 175 hp at 5,500 rpm and 265 Nm from 1,500 to 4,500 rpm.

The variant gets a few exterior elements to help differentiate it from the regular Tucson, and these are projector LED headlights with LED daytime running lights and cornering lights as well as a darker finish for the 17-inch alloys. New to the SUV is a front camera, a brake Auto Hold function and a smart powered tailgate system, which offers hands-free operation of the rear lid.

Specification-wise, the kit found on the turbo model mirrors the current range-topping Executive model. Equipment includes front/rear fog lights, keyless entry, push-button start, electronic parking brake, rear air-con vents, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and a Supervision 4.2-inch TFT LCD multi-info display.

On the safety front, the Tucson 1.6 T-GDI is equipped with six airbags, ESC, vehicle stability management, hill start assist, hill descent control, ABS with EBD and brake assist and Isofix rear child seat anchors.

Cost-option accessories are available for the car, and these consist of two leather upholstery packages (RM1,288 for red, and RM1,988 for white), a body kit (RM2,000) and 19-inch five-spoke alloy wheels wrapped with 245/45 profile tyres (RM5,500), the latter replacing the model’s standard 17-inch alloys and 225/60 profile rubbers.

Like all the other Tucson variants, the Tucson 1.6L T-GDI is entitled to a 50,000 km or three-year free service package, and the car comes with a five-year or 300,000 km (whichever comes first) warranty.

    • Korean brands fanboys all scratching their heads why not many people talking about their Korean SUVs. Geely fanboys waiting for Proton Tongsan to debut with hopefully none of the so-called ‘design’ from dumb mimos. French brands fanboys jealous of Korean brand fanboys because no one ever talks about their undesirable brands at all.

  • I am expecting higher tune on the 1.6 turbo with the heavy SUV, but in fact this is 29hp lower than the 1.6T Elantra. Does not make sense.

heavy car need more torque, not horse power. much higher than CRV 2.4 with more expensive road tax. this 1.6 gamma turbo diesel should be putting in Grand starex and my favorite New Kia Karnival THUMB UP!!!(split-split over to over priced Toyota Astima) , By this way, This 1.6 turbo diesel possible to tune up to 201hp.

More engine or on wheel power, requires more grip & brake power as well. Larger rims & better grip rubber still preferable. Comfort vs grip. Why not 18″rims?

Tucson and Sportage is essentially the same SUV.

Both has very low resale value as with all Korean vehicles

You want everything on top of the world, high specs here n there, then get a Jaguar SUV or a Range Rover then. So many Car salesmen here harping on their brand. Go test drive before give your jugdement/ verdict.
