With the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance coming up, Infiniti has released two teaser images of its show car that will be showcased at the glamorous event.
“It started as a simple thought: what if we found a car, down at the southern tip of Japan, buried deep in the barn, hidden from all eyes for 70 years? What if in this car we found the seed of passion planted during our first Japanese Grand Prix and the power and artistry of Infiniti today? What would this discovery look like?” asked Alfonso Albaisa, senior vice president of global design at Infiniti.
The result of all those questions is what Infiniti refers to as a “heritage inspired (retro) prototype vehicle,” which certainly appears to be inspired by pre-war, single-seater race cars. Infiniti says the prototype follows its ‘Powerful Elegance’ design language, but it isn’t just about harking back to the past.
Beneath the retro bodywork, contributed to by the “hands and hearts of hundreds of craftsmen,” the prototype is said to feature advanced electric vehicle (EV) technology. We’ll get more information about this marriage of classic and modern in a few days’ time, so stay tuned.
