VIDEO: The Exorcist beats the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon on a drag strip – 0-100 km/h in 2.1 seconds

When Dodge introduced the unholy spawn that is the Challenger SRT Demon, Hennessey Performance (HPE) wasted no time in creating an answer with The Exorcist. Based on the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, the car packed 1,014 hp (1,000 bhp) and 1,197 Nm of torque, which made the Demon look tame by comparison.

However, it isn’t just fancy marketing and big numbers because the HPE team have proven that their creation has what it takes to exorcise the Demon from a drag strip, and have the fanboys absolve themselves for their misplaced support.

So, just how much better is The Exorcist than the Demon? Well, it completed the quarter-mile (400 m) sprint in just 9.57 seconds at 236 km/h, which is quicker than the Demon’s 9.65 seconds at 225 km/h.

As for the 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) test, it did that in 2.1 seconds – 0.2 seconds quicker than the Demon. Zero to 100 mph (0-161 km/h)? Yup, The Exorcist is better at that too, clocking in 4.7 seconds – 0.4 seconds quicker than the Demon.

If you’ve already brought a Demon, fret not because the HPE team are working on an upgrade kit for your car which is said to increase the 6.2 litre supercharged HEMI V8’s output to between 1,000 to 1,500 hp.

  • For something that has extra 160 hp and 157 Nm over the Demon, the performance figures of the Exorcist are not that impressive. Only 0.08 seconds faster in the 1/4 mile run with that much extra power and torque!

Any road car that does 9 seconds on the strip is no small feat. Its amazing how it even managed to hook up so gracefully.
