McLaren’s upcoming hyper-GT, which was previously codenamed BP23, has finally been given a name – Speedtail. Along with reinforcing the brand’s love for tails, the reveal also includes some additional information about the three-seat model that will be parked under its Ultimate Series line-up.

The Speedtail will feature a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain that makes an unknown amount of horsepower, but the company says it will allow for a top speed exceeding 391 km/h. A flowing, highly streamlined design as well as the use of exquisite new materials will aid in this endeavour.

As mentioned earlier, the new McLaren will come with three seats, arranged in a similar layout to the classic F1 – centrally-mounted driving position with two seats either side. Despite being the fastest-ever McLaren in a straight line, the company says it will also be the most luxurious so a fight with the Bugatti Chiron is now inevitable.

Unlike the Chiron, only 106 Speedtails will be made and every unit is priced at 1.6 million British pounds (about RM8.5 million) plus taxes. However, even if you have that much spare cash lying around, every single one has been accounted for.

Should you be one of the lucky few who managed to secure a unit, enjoy your private preview ahead of a full public reveal before the end of 2018. Production of the Speedtail is due to begin at the end of next year, with every car personalised to each owner’s taste by McLaren Special Operations (MSO).
