India, a country choking on its own emissions, has proposed tax waivers on the purchase of electric vehicles to kickstart sales, Reuters reports. It has also removed import taxes on some auto components for the same purpose. The ultimate aim is to reduce the country’s dependence on fossil fuels.
India is the world’s third-biggest emitter of greenhouse gases, and home to 14 of the world’s most polluted cities, including capital New Delhi. Apparently, the country’s toxic air claimed more than one million lives in 2017, so reducing pollution is a pressing matter.
Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, when presenting the federal budget to parliament, said buyers of EVs will receive an income tax deduction of 150,000 rupees (RM9,036) on interest paid on loans taken. She added that the government will also withdraw import tariffs on some parts used to make electric vehicles. “Considering our large consumer base, we aim to leapfrog and envision India as a global hub of manufacturing of electric vehicles,” she said.
There’s a long way to go, though. The report says that while the developing nation wants electric vehicles to form 30% of all passenger vehicle sales by 2030, at present, EVs account for less than 1% of new vehicle sales due to a lack of charging infrastructure and the high cost of batteries.
Sitharaman added the government had already proposed reducing a national goods and services tax from 12% to 5% to spur sales. The plan is to have “mega-manufacturing plants” to make lithium-ion batteries and solar charging infrastructure. Another announced move to reduce air pollution in cities is to shut down old and inefficient power plants and look for ways to increase the use of natural gas-based power.

Look at the picture, it’s not pollution which is the main problem they need to tackle, unless life there is cheaper than environment (maybe!).
In Malaysia, the government is most likely to look forward with electric vehicles, EEV for Diesel Commercial Vehicles like pick-up trucks, lorries, trailers, buses and tankers, EEV for motorcycle and EEV for plug in hybrid vehicles and EEV for petrol vehicles. That way as mentioned again, this will help to reduce carbon emissions to make environment better.
Naw bro. New Gov is skipping EV and direct go for flying car. But problem, no human is small enuff to ride it. Hahaha!
Err…bro, it says Electric Vehicles under the list of NAP2019. Of course, it also says about flying cars under the list of NAP2019. These two statements that I got evidence according the picture website from:
Besides that, the paultan website also mention that there will still continue having EEV Incentives for Petrol Cars and Hybrid Cars as according the website from:
As mentioned again earlier of paultan website about MARii which I post since two weeks back, it is most likely that the government will only discontinue giving EEV incentive for diesel passenger vehicles. However, the government will still continue to give EEV incentive for diesel commercial vehicles such as pick up trucks, lorries, trailers and buses
New Gov has remove incentives for CKD hybrids and PHEVs. This isnt a move from one that is promoting EV tech but making the tech more exp for new owners. They have their own agenda and EV tech isnt one of them, dun trust what they wrote. All bollocks just like PH janjis. Even previous Gov push to mandate all fuels to be Euro5 grade has been push back for 5 years by PH. Do they seriously care about environ? Heck no!
Pak Madani sembang EV larr
they should reduce their population, especially the rapists
India may want to start local assembly of batteries of such as for EV so that they do not need to rely much on imports. The old batteries are recyclables so another plant to do so will reduce the dependency on imports of raw material.
My comment is based on what they worry most – the cost of batteries.
When is our government going to kick start the EV revolution. Don’t wait until everybody is sick due to pollution.
