Toyo Tires has officially launched the Proxes CR1 in Malaysia. The entry-level touring tyre, which replaces the NanoEnergy 3, is available here in standard and SUV variants and is designed for A- to D-segment passenger cars and SUVs.
The company is touting several key features that improve the tyre’s noise reduction, comfort and safety. Firstly, the CR1 features what Toyo calls a “silent wall” along the grooves of the tyre to reduce noise, plus a pitch arrangement that differs on the inside and outside to disperse the pitch noise in each area, reducing pattern noise. A noise protection sheet has also been incorporated in the construction to lower casing noise.
As for handling, the Japanese tyre maker is claiming superior performance in the wet, thanks to four large grooves (three grooves on tyres 185 mm and narrower) to enhance water drainage. On dry roads, the triple taper and rib design increases rib rigidity to improve performance and reduce uneven wear by suppressing circumferential fluctuation.
Further reducing irregular tyre wear are the multi-wave sipes that increase block stiffness, as well as a jointless cap ply that improves high-speed performance. Meanwhile, the sidewall is made from a new compound that reduces rolling resistance and thus, fuel consumption.
Comfort has also been improved through the use of proprietary T-Mode tyre simulation and Nano Balance material design technologies. Overall, the Proxes CR1 is claimed to reduce road noise by 11% and aquaplaning by two per cent compared to the NanoEnergy 3, improving wet-weather performance.
“The Proxes CR1 passenger car and SUV tyres are ideal for both Continental and Japanese vehicles, especially A-segment to D-segment vehicles and SUVs.” said Toyo Tyre Sales and Marketing Malaysia president and managing director Tan Song Chye.
“The result of this well-designed tyre using advanced Japanese technology is sure to satisfy even the most discerning drivers who appreciate a superior performance tyre that consistently performs well under high speeds in both wet and dry road conditions. It also delivers safety, high fuel efficiency and improved noise reduction for enhanced driving pleasure.”
Available at Toyo Centres and Silverstone Centres nationwide, the Proxes CR1 is offered in 36 sizes ranging from 14 to 18 inches in diameter, priced from RM160 to RM440. The CR1 SUV, on the other hand, comes in nine sizes for 17- to 19-inch wheels, retailing between RM380 and RM580. Buyers who purchase a set of four tyres will receive a free, limited-edition Proxes CR1 umbrella while stocks last.

Entry level. How about some test results to see if it is good?
Damn, i just change my 19 with CF2 SUV. Better wet performance compare to R46, but R46 win over dry road.
If this tyre treadwear is 400, then it will perform same as CF2.
Been using this CR1 tyres for a week now. I like it more than Nanoenergy 3 tyres. It doesn’t squeak that much when turning in concrete carparks. The wet traction is a tad better than Nanoenergy 3 in that it has less water resistant pushing back the car when ploughing through puddle of water. The car just feels like rolling on its own compared to Continental CC5 or CC6. Use less gas to get the car moving & that’s what i like about it the most. When comes to cornering, you need to reduce acceleration more as there is less rolling resistance with this tyre. Once you get used to the tyre, it provides a good grip round corner. I’ve tried pushing it & has no problem taking the corner with confidence with less gas needed to power the car round the bend. Btw my
car is a Manual with 3 paddles. Not sure about its characteristics on a auto car. My guess is you need to slow the car down more before approaching the corner compared to other tyres. This is likely to create a less confidence feeling to most drivers. Stepping more on brakes around the bend will probably induced the traction control more frequently than usual.
Can you share the noise level of this tyre compared to cc6? Planning to change all 4 tyres to cc6 or cr1 in a couple of days.. do let me know the comfort level too.. I’m seeking a comfort oriented silent tyres. Budget is not of concern. Had bad experience with ps3 before so will avoid primacy 4
What the treadwear of the tyre?
My CR1 size 225/45R17 is marked Treadwear 360, Traction A, Temperature A. After 1k km, I can safely say the CR1 is the most comfortable and silent of the 4 sets of tyres I’ve had on my car. Only drawback is that steering response feels slightly less direct than the other tyres I’ve run on my car (all premium touring class tyres). Straight line stability is fine.
As an entry-level premium comfort-oriented tyre, perhaps can Paultan.org conduct a test to compare this Toyo CR1 tyre with:
Michelin Primacy 4
Bridgestone Turanza
And cc6 or uc6 too…
Toyo are dangerous tyres, had it on my 2016 Navarra. After 2 years, botak, can’t do wet braking or sudden down shifts, car will under steer to left. Changed to Mich SUV since softer than the next model.
what..you actually telling me that there’s botak tyre that can do wet braking?
Yalah! Of course it will “ice skate”…..!
I bought 4 TOYO tires 175/65 R14 PCXR1, but no free umbrella. The dealer said it is for R15 and above
I already use Nano Energy 3 and I just used proxes CR1 for 3 weeks. Today, at a speed of 60km/h. I made a hard break in the wet road and my car was sciding within 5 meters, I hit a car infront of me. Long sciding sound. Both tyres are weak in the wet road. Sorry to say, not to make it worse, but it is a fact
May I know is your car having ABS? For non ABS fitted car you need to do at least double or triple braking (apply brake pedal n let go in a rapid manner) otherwise it will definitely skid no matter what tyre you are using. Correct me if I am wrong….
Wet road + no abs + hard brake, no matter what tires you use, it will skid a little.
My car doesn’t hav ABS but i use the tires that hav shorter braking distance. i was on hard brake on wet road, it is braking with a shorter distance and not skidding at all. I’m using michelin. For non abs cars, should be use any tires that hav a shorter braking distance
