A total of 35 individuals were issued summonses for the unauthorised use of high intensity discharge (HID) headlamps on their vehicles by the Negeri Sembilan Road Transport Department (JPJ), Sinar Harian reported.
The summonses were issued at a special JPJ operation at KM 5.5 along Jalan Seremban-Tampin on Tuesday, according to Negeri Sembilan JPJ director Hanif Yusabra Yusuf. A total of 496 vehicles were checked in the two-hour operation that began at 9pm, and 55 had action taken against them for a range of offences.
Of those, 35 were issued summonses for the unauthorised retrofit installation of HID headlamps, the Negeri Sembilan JPJ director told Sinar Harian. According to Hanif, the operation was carried out by the JPJ enforcement division owners of private vehicles in particular complied with the rules as set under the Road Transport Act 1987.
Enforcement of the law concerning illegal headlamps will continue to be carried out as the installation of HID lights can cause discomfort and endanger other road users, the state’s JPJ director was quoted as saying.
“Negeri Sembilan JPJ always works to ensure the safety and comfort of road users. [The enforcement] can also reduce the rate of road accidents because other road users will face difficulties driving due to the bright lighting that can cause glare,” he said.

petty….try conduct in klang valley la
How about retrofitted LED? It is not only HID causing discomfort. And misaligned or used of original headlamp may cause even more discomfort to proper retrofitted HID. I think JPJ is outdated or focus on the wrong things (accidentally? or intentionally?). It is not which kind of light people are using, it is how people are using it.
Summon $300/-..Wait for grand finale rebates year end or grand celebration of politicians achievement..pay only $60/- after 80% discount.
Pity the frontliner officers who brave covid to catch offenders, while after a few months, some vvip decided to give away rebates.
Pathetic.
Is HID still a thing? Nearly all ady switch over to LED lights, so is LED still compliant since many high variants are using LED lights now.
Why not carry out an operation to inspect resellers of car accessories for HID
It is not illegal to import, buy & sell. They are not contraband items.
It is only illegal to use.
If using white LED can or not? It is not HID.
The problem is using HID or LED in a reflector headlight housing, where it will spread the bright white light every where & at higher level, right straight into people eyes.
HID lights are in the bluish spectrum while halogen lights are in the yellowish spectrum. Thus, light from a HID bulb will not spread correctly in a halogen headlight housing because the position of the bulb in relation to the reflectors and the refractive index of the lenses have been optimized for light from a halogen bulb.
Learn from China and make those drivers who installed illegal headlights stare at their own high beam for 1 hour…
Finally jpj done something worth while! Punish these havoc drivers
Ops for Exhaust modification finish already? 100% comply? Why there are still loud exhaust motorbike and cars still fooling around?
Kudos to the JPJ for embarking on an operation to take on the motorists who used unauthorised high intensity discharge (HID) on their vehicles as to ensure the comfort and safety of the road users. Unfortunately, the operation was done in Negeri Sembilan only whereas the other states are also having the same problem.
Another big problem of the road users is the unauthorised and noisy exhaust pipes of the vehicles and the motorcycles. Almost all the kapcais and the smaller cars’ owners modified their exhaust pipe systems to the noisy level in order to make ‘staments’. Malaysians are aware that there are laws or regulations that allow the sound of the exhaust pipes not to exceed certain decibel. However, JPJ is keeping its ears deaf and Malaysians are wondering why we have laws and regulations in the country but are not enforced by the authorities.
HID headlamps are created for a safer driving condition at night especially in poorly illuminated countryside roads & even long distance highways at night & also during extreme conditions like during a thunderstorm.
All it takes is properly headlamp adjustments by an experienced or your car manufacturer service centre.
Whether it is a HID headlamp or a normal one, every drivers know the blinding glare can be caused by both if not well adjusted according to the car’s headlamp specifications for a safe drive for both the driver & oncoming vehicles.
Definitely all drivers have at one time or another experienced such blinding glare from even an old vehicle without HID headlamp, mainly due to an improperly adjusted headlamp or inconsiderate drivers who use high beam wrongly.
Ya a good exercise from jpj. Should carry out to whole of Malaysia
