Proton has said it will strive to ensure customers who have placed a booking before the end of the sales and service tax (SST) exemption period are able to receive and register their vehicles before April 1, 2023 to enjoy the tax savings.
However, Proton deputy CEO Roslan Abdullah told Berita Harian that to avoid any potential issues, the carmaker will stop accepting new orders on a model-to-model basis depending on its production limit. “The move was implemented by the national carmaker to enable its customers to receive the desired model and enjoy sales tax exemption incentives,” he said.
Roslan noted the waiting period for Proton models is up to two months for the X70, Persona, Iriz, Exora and Saga, depending on variant and colour. “As for the X50, it will take about six months and is also subject to color and variant choices,” he added.
Proton’s statement comes following the finance ministry’s announcement on Monday (June 20) that it would not extend the SST exemption, which ends in a few days’ time on June 30, 2022, although an allowance for the SST exemption will be applied for any vehicle booked before July 1 this year and registered by March 31, 2023.
On the matter of how buyers can be eligible to benefit from the SST exemption, Roslan explained, “for buyers who want to enjoy tax exemption incentives, bookings must be made before July 1, 2022, while vehicle registrations must be done before April 1, 2023.”
A booking fee of between RM500 and RM1,000 (depending on model) applies to get yourself in Proton’s queue, although purchase transactions are subject to terms and conditions, including bank loan approval. As such, not all bookings will necessarily be converted into a sale, Roslan said.
Have you already placed a booking for a new Proton, or are you looking to do so before the SST exemption ends? If you haven’t done so already, it looks like you’ll need to hurry to “lock in” the SST-less pricing before the production limit is met.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
buying a x70 or x50 now is trying to buy a exotic car. cusomer waiting for many month and still couldn’t get their car deliver lol some dealer will even tell you add on stuff to get on top of waiting list.
Proton is still more honest, Perodua continue to sell it to potential buyers that they will get their on time but see my Ativa ordered 6 months ago still not arrive yet. With the extension I am considering switch over to get X50 or better.
At least proton said it out clearly to the public on the timeline. Not like mercedez , keep on accepting booking, no ETA given , Shame on MB.
6 months for X50 delivery?180 days..oh my gaud.
Only the diehard, hardcore, addicted fanboys will wanna wait.
The car is well worth the wait, with our without SST exemption.
70% of localisation of X70 parts does improve waiting time for delivery, i hope X50 will get the same treatment …
I hope they buffer in potential cancellations or else some of the stocks produced before the deadline to register will be carried forward.
Didnt they also say parts problem is not serious as it seem? Should we trust them?
I’m still waiting for my persona,it’s already 6 month…SA promise to deliver it within 4 month, very disappointed with proton
Me too.. I’m still waiting and now it alresy 7 month. I think proton need to push on production of their suplier as the said it was the micro chip issue. Now mostly all factory is fully operate with full headcound suppose all should be recover. They should give us or tell us how long we need to wait for the car to deliver to us.
I’ve been waiting for my Persona for 7 months already, but still nothing today… Mr Roslan the Deputy CEO claims the wait would be just 2 MONTHS!!!…called up the sales countless times to enquire about my car, and even lodged a complaint with Proton customer care… but still nothing… Proton has been giving us empty promises, and people like me have been fooled by the sweet talk… the CEOs need to be made aware of the true state of affairs at the consumer end, and not sow promises that are misleading to the public.
l’ve waiting my Proton Saga Premium S almost 7 months
Giving empty promises, said that i can get my car within 2 months.
