This could be any of us, as scenarios such as this happen everyday in the city.
This video posted by Nizam Haji Darimi on Facebook shows a typical rush hour traffic jam scenario in KL city centre. The dashcam timestamp shows that it was yesterday evening, and from the buildings, this is Jalan Yap Kwan Seng from KLCC heading towards Jalan Tun Razak, with Megan Avenue on the left and Star Residences on the right.
A Grab rider zooms past the traffic jam, and he’s using the empty opposing lane. We don’t even bat an eyelid as this is such a common scene, and while it’s technically against the law, it’s also not very logical for bikes to sit in the queue like a car, more so a delivery rider. Not condoning, just being realistic.

The problem is that the rider is going fast and is unaware of vehicles coming out from the left. A red Honda Civic then turns out from the left towards KLCC – legally – and he/she proceeds as it’s all clear from the driver’s left, and the cars in the queue have (rightly) given room. The Grab rider collides with the Civic’s nose, sending him and the bike flying.
The Civic is an innocent party here – the driver inches out of the junction (he/she didn’t zoom out) but there’s just no way the driver would have seen the speeding bike from the opposite direction. We hope that the rider is OK and no bones were broken in the making of this dashcam video.
There’s nothing much we can do other than install a dashcam and being on high alert at junctions, not just where we must look, but all directions. Even so, one can still be unlucky. Drive safe.

Pity the driver…the car driver of course. Hope the motorbike driver is alive and learned his lesson.
I have rode my bike down the Yap Kwan Seng like the infortunate food rider did but I constantly be aware of vehicles coming out like the Honda did, I know my actions is wrong, thus all the more I gives right of way for cars like the Honda to cut through the Q, thus I practiced a strict defensive riding, unlike the food rider who speeds without anticipating vehicles coming out in between the line of cars heading towards Jln Tun Razak, that’s suicidal, plain stupid riding mode and when these riders gets knock down they starts blaming the car driver. I know this stretch, as I rode it for 12 years picking up my wife at Menara PB before riding down the Jln Yap Kwan Seng towards Jln Tun Razak to back home in Shah Alam. My riding principal “If you have to “curi curi”, you are in the wrong, its not your rights of the way, strictly focus on what may comes out in between those line of cars and most importantly SLOW DOWN” and never never beat the red light. I last rode that stretch in January 2022. On January 26, 2022 I had an accident when I ran over a pack of dogs on the motor lane besides the Federal Highway. Broken arm and index finger but I am pretty much recovered now and am back on my bikes..
More and more rider need to retake the driving class seriously… It’s a common sense to slow down at any junction or traffic light… It’s not only risk to rider himself/herself but it danger to the pedestrian as well…
hope that bike rider is dead — natural selection at its best. One less idiot on the road.
If he dies, the Civic driver will have to spend 6 years in jail…
Not necessarily. The wrongdoer doesn’t have a legal ground in this incident.
not if the family cries hard enough. we have just recently seen something similar
Yeah come let me hit your car and then you spend 6 years in jail for letting me hit your car. You made your own law?
Wat Wee Wee are doing, lately a lot of motorcyclist accident here and there. They all love their customer so much until beat the traffic light, drive fast and zig zag here & there. Moreover when car driver want to change lane, the motorcyclist will educate the driver with multi language and sign.
I assume most of the motorcyclist love their customer than their own life and family.. So mighty great of them
Happy to see this, hope rider is dead.
Definately against the law. It’s a double line there for a reason.
Motobodo.
Even if you want to do that illegally, prudence is needed and do it slowly.
All the motorcycle rides that side of the lane….How come???
Kick la the cars mirror!
The bike riders should slow down in urban populated areas. Its common sense. Gran has not taken any initiative to inculcate safety to its riders. Very bad management.
True, speeding like that without anticipating cars may comes out between that long lines of cars is pure suicidal and stupid. When he gets knock down 1st thing on his mind is to blame the car driver… and others riders starts to stops and join harrasing blaming the driver.
