The 2023 Volvo XC40 facelift has gone on sale in Malaysia, in B5 mild-hybrid and T5 Recharge plug-in hybrid variants. Both arrive on the market in a single Ultimate trim level, and both B5 Ultimate and T5 Recharge variants are priced at RM268,888 on-the-road without insurance.
The 2023 Volvo XC40 B5 Ultimate mild-hybrid variant is powered by a 1,969 cc turbocharged inline-four cylinder petrol engine that produces 263 hp at 5,500 rpm and 390 Nm of torque from 1,800 rpm to 4,800 rpm, sent to all four driven wheels via an eight-speed Geartronic automatic transmission; this enables a 0-100 km/h time of 6.4 seconds.
Rolling stock on the B5 Ultimate is a set of 19-inch alloy wheels in a five-Y-spoke design in a matte graphite, diamond-cut finish, and these are shod in tyres measuring 235/50.
Meanwhile, the T5 Recharge Ultimate plug-in hybrid packs a 1,477 cc three-cylinder turbo petrol engine, producing 262 hp at 5,800 rpm and 425 Nm of torque from 1,500 rpm to 3,000 rpm; these outputs are sent to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The T5 Recharge PHEV gets a slightly smaller fuel tank at 48 litres (the B5 mild-hybrid gets 54 litres), albeit with a pure EV range of 44 km for the PHEV. Wheels for the T5 Recharge PHEV are the same size as on the B5, with 19-inch five-double-spoke black diamond-cut wheels shod in 235/50 tyres; both variants are fitted with a tyre pressure monitoring system.
In terms of the active safety suite for the 2023 XC40 facelift in Malaysia, both variants for our market get the City Safety pack that includes collision avoidance and mitigation with intersection support, as well as pedestrian, cyclist and large animal detection with steering support and braking. Both also get adaptive cruise control, the Pilot Assist system, and a 360-degree surround view camera setup.
Also on for both variants of the 2023 XC40 are front and rear collision warning and mitigation support, lane keeping assist, run-off road mitigation with road edge detection, blind spot information with steer assist, cross traffic alert with AEB, and seat belt detection with indicator for all seats. Over the T5 Recharge, the B5 mild-hybrid additionally gets the Ready to Drive notification and emergency stop assist.
For passive safety, both B5 and T5 Recharge variants get the run-off road protection setup, dual-stage driver and front passenger airbags, driver’s knee airbag, dual-chamber side airbags and side impact protection system, full-length inflatable curtains and whiplash protection for both front seats.
Infotainment for the 2023 XC40 facelift comes courtesy of an Android operating system with a nine-inch portrait-oriented colour touchscreen, along with a 14-speaker 600-watt Harman Kardon audio system and Bluetooth phone connectivity with audio streaming. This includes access to Google Assistant, Google Maps, the Google Play Store, the Volvo Car App remote functions and data for four years.
Further conveniences include power-adjustable driver and front passenger seats, memory recall for the driver’s seating and mirror positions, and four-way power-adjustable lumbar support. Air-conditioning is by two-zone climate control with the Clean Zone interior air quality system with the PM2.5 sensor.
Both the B5 mild-hybrid and T5 Recharge plug-in hybrid variants get suede textile and Microtech upholstery in Charcoal, while exterior colours offered are Fjord Blue, Black Stone, Crystal White, Thunder Grey and Silver Dawn. The 2023 Volvo XC40 facelift in Malaysia is sold with a five-year, unlimited mileage warranty.

i appreciate that Volvo decided to make the spec sheet identical on the facelift. now it’s basically if you want the plug in hybrid vs mild hybrid. personally would go with the mild hybrid for its AWD capabilities though, even if it’s not really necessary in Malaysia.
Yeah. SUV need to have AWD. You don’t really need it 99% of the time, but when that 1% comes, you really need it.
Better get Harrier turbo, More powerful n way more spacious. Priced lower then this Xc40 too
Why need to buy outdated harrier turbo or recon harrier turbo when XC40 got everything. Better get either this or latest harrier
awd not necessary? even in KL there a lot of places with very bad roads. step out of selangor and it gets worse.
You do not understand what is purpose of an AWD. No it is not to go over bad roads, you can use a normal FWD SUV for that just fine.
And to top off, the bad roads are in Selangor. Leave that state and the road quality gets better.
Kudos to Volvo on fully decking out the XC40 with all the bells and whistles again. Although, it’s not immediately clear to me what’s new with this facelift vs. before. Perhaps a paragraph explaining this more explicitly would be helpful?

B5 Ultimate- Mild Hybrid, 263HP/390Nm, 0-100 in 7.6secs 360 camera, Android operating system with built in google apps/functions, 14-speaker 600-watt Harman Kardon audio system, Ultimate trim (same grille & black side mirrors, but body coloured roof, lighter interiors & microtech interior/suede seats), new headlight design/ thor’s hammer, passive and active safety looks the same. 267k without insurance
