A total of 17,002 traffic saman worth RM1.86 million were settled in the first two days of the Royal Malaysian Police’s (PDRM) 50% saman discount campaign, which runs November 5-9, The Star reports.
Bukit Aman director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri told the English daily that the campaign’s first two days saw a total of 3,100 people turn up at the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department’s KL HQ to pay their saman through cash, e-payment and 50% coupons.
With a long queue forming as early as 7am today (November 7), PDRM has taken measures including stationing 40 department officers and personnel daily throughout the campaign as well as setting up 15 counters, three special counters (for the disabled, elderly, and pregnant women), 14 e-payment machines and 350 chairs.
However, some 43.5 million traffic saman totalling a massive RM6.5 billion remain unsettled nationwide, representing a third of a total 135.9 million saman worth RM20.3 billion issued from 1990 to date, Comm Yusri divulged, in a separate The Star report.
So far this year, 4.3 million traffic saman have been issued nationwide worth RM646.1 million in total, with 881,211 saman issued in the city alone.
“Most of the offences are for obstructing traffic and disregarding traffic signs. It is quite high given the number of enforcement operations conducted throughout the year,” Comm Yusri said.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
if the RM6.5 billion means so much why dont allow people to pay online
Why saman defaulters delay payments?
Pakai otak lor…cos they wait for the huge rebates.
Just make it online payment. No need go balai, find limited parking, and sweat in the hot sun.
If still default, pull them out of their spiderholes, make them attend mahkamah.
i want to pay at Mybayar PDRM, why not auto discount 50% there, why must go to police station and queue for the discount voucher? Causing inconvenience for no reason
6 billion debts and those cars still can renew roadtax
Thats why road fatalities still high in Malaysia. Only in Bolehland, offenders can negotiate for discounts. Enforcement then mellow down with discounts instead of going after these traffic offenders to collect the outstanding as deterrent.
