Xiaomi will only consider selling cars outside China from 2027 as it has to focus first on high domestic demand for its SU7 sedan and YU7 SUV, CEO Lei Jun has said, according to a Reuters report.

In China, the SU7 has been outselling the Tesla Model 3 on a monthly basis since December and the YU7 amassed some 240,000 orders within 18 hours of its launch. The waiting period for the YU7? Over a year, Xiaomi told customers, which launched a wave of complaints. “We’ll strive to ramp up capacity,” Lei said without elaborating.

The Xiaomi YU7 has now been officially launched, following its prior unveiling last December and it joins the SU7 sedan to form the brand’s two-model EV line-up.

The SUV addition to the Chinese brand’s range is offered in three variants:

    • YU7 RWD – Single motor with 235 kW (320 PS) /528 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, 240 km/h top speed
    • YU7 AWD – Dual motor with 365 kW (496 PS) /690 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds, 240 km/h top speed
    • YU7 Max AWD – Dual motor with 508 kW (690 PS) /866 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 3.23 seconds, 253 km/h top speed

In terms of battery capacities and estimated range figures (CLTC), the three variants are as follows:

    • YU7 RWD – 96.3 kWh LFP, 835 km range
    • YU7 AWD – 96.3 kWh LFP, 770 km range
    • YU7 Max AWD – 101.7 kWh NCM, 760 km range

Propulsion is by V6s Plus motors supplied by United Automotive Electronics, running on Xiaomi’s 800-volt platform capable of 5.2C charging speeds bringing an additional 620 km of battery range in 15 minutes, or recharging from 10-80% in 12 minutes.

From earlier information, we know that the YU7 SUV measures 4,999 mm long, 1,996 mm wide and 1,600 mm tall with a 3,000 mm wheelbase. This makes its two mm longer, 33 mm wider and 160 mm taller than its SU7 sibling, while wheelbase is unchanged.

In terms of styling, the YU7 essentially mimics the SU7 sedan in its front fascia and side profile up to its rear doors, albeit with added SUV design cues such as the darkened wheel arch surrounds. At the rear end, the tailgate and rear fascia incorporate a derivative of the SU7 sedan’s full-width tail lamp assembly, albeit with taller arcs at each end and a roof-mounted spoiler.

Under the skin, the YU7 structure features the use of 2,200 MPa ultra-high-strength steel for impact protection beams in its doors, which is claimed to offer load-bearing and energy absorption in the front doors by 52.4% and 40.2% respectively, and for the rear doors at 37.6% and 25.4% respectively.

Meanwhile, hot-formed tubes in the A- and B-pillars form an “embedded roll cage” to fortify the bodyshell, increasing load bearing capacity for the A- and B-pillars by 35% and 70.5% respectively. High-strength steel and aluminium make up 90.2% of the YU7 SUV’s construction, contributing to a torsional rigidity figure of 47,610 Nm per degree.

Chassis equipment for the YU7 is comprised of double wishbone suspension in the front and a five-link setup at the rear, suspended by dual-chamber air springs and continuously controlled dampers.

This is capable of five levels of ride height through an adjustment range of 75 mm, to yield a maximum ground clearance of 222 mm. Air spring rates can vary by 40%, and offers 10% more damping adjustment compared to the SU7 sedan. Meanwhile, braking hardware features Brembo four-piston fixed calipers, which enable a claimed 100-0 km/h braking distance of 33.9 m.

Xiaomi YU7 SUV debuts – three variants, up to 835 km range CLTC; AWD up to 690 PS/866 Nm, 0-100 in 3.23 s

Inside, the Xiaomi YU7 develops on the design theme as seen on the SU7 sedan, with the brand’s new SUV featuring a 1.1 m-wide display located at the base of the windscreen, dubbed the HyperVision Panoramic Display with a peak brightness figure of 1,200 nits.

This is joined by a 16.1-inch central touchscreen infotainment display, while the rear passengers get a pair of entertainment screens, as also offered in the SU7 sedan. The front seats are “zero gravity” units trimmed in Nappa leather, and these offer up to 123 degrees of recline and a 10-point massage capability.

Rear passengers get electrically adjustable seats, and a 6.7-inch touchscreen for infotainment and climate control. For storage, the YU7 features a rear luggage compartment that holds 678 litres, expandable to 1,758 litres with the rear seats folded, and is complemented by a 141 litre front luggage compartment. Meanwhile, the occupant cabin offers 71 litres of storage across various compartments.

Driving assistance systems in the YU7 by one lidar unit, one millimetre-wave radar, 11 high-definition cameras and 12 ultrasonic radars. These are powered by the Nvidia Drive AGX Thor computing platform for assisted driving, which delivers processing power of up to 700 TOPS.

Market launch for the Xiaomi YU7 is scheduled for July this year, when vehicle pricing for the Chinese market will be announced.

The Xiaomi YU7 electric SUV debuts with three variants – the base 320 PS RWD with the 96.3 kWh LFP battery (835 km range), the 496 PS dual-motor AWD with the 96.3 kWh LFP battery (770 km range), and the 690 PS dual-motor Max AWD with the 101.7 kWh NCM battery (760 km range); figures are CLTC estimates.

Xiaomi YU7 EV to be launched in China on May 22

Xiaomi Auto will launch its first electric crossover called the YU7 in China on May 22. The brand’s upcoming model will be its second and joins the SU7 that made its debut back in December 2023.

The YU7’s styling isn’t a mystery despite the use of a shadowy teaser for the debut date announcement. Last December, company CEO Lei Jun posted photos of the crossover alongside the highly popular SU7, with both sharing similar cues.

These include tapered headlights with a light bar running through the middle of the cluster, a trapezoidal air intake with body-coloured inserts, a sweeping roofline, a large rear diffuser as well as C-shaped taillights that are joined at the bottom. Both also have a lip spoiler for their boot/tailgate, although the YU7 has a prominent roof-mounted wing.

Referring to information from China’s ministry of industry and information technology (MIIT), the YU7 measures 4,999 mm long, 1,996 mm wide and 1,600 mm tall and has a wheelbase spanning 3,000 mm.

It will be offered with a dual-motor setup rated at 690 PS (681 hp or 508 kW), with power coming from a CATL-sourced nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery. Last year, Xiaomi delivered at total of 135,000 vehicles, all of which were the SU7. This year, the delivery target is 300,000 units, with the YU7 expected to contribute significantly.

Xiaomi YU7 AWD set to get up to 760 km CLTC range

The drip feed of Xiaomi YU7 news continues ahead of its launch in either June or July this year. The car was revealed in December, and a recent filing with China’s ministry of industry and information technology (MIIT) has now revealed preliminary range figures for this electric SUV.

In all-wheel-drive form, the YU7 produces up to 299 PS (220 kW) through its front motor and 392 PS (288 kW) through its rear motor, leading to a total system output of 691 PS (508 kW). That’s more than what you got in the car’s sedan sibling, the SU7, which produced up to 673 PS (495 kW) in regular non-Ultra form.

No surprise, then, that the range suffers slightly from it, according to Autohome. Three AWD variants will be offered, with range figures of 670 km, 750 km and 760 km – some way short of the 700 km achieved by the base SU7, 830 km from the SU7 Pro and 800 km from the SU7 Max. As usual, these numbers are based on China’s ridiculously lenient CLTC cycle, so expect much less in the real world.

Xiaomi YU7 AWD set to get up to 760 km CLTC range

Looking all the world like a junior Ferrari Purosangue, the YU7 is Xiaomi’s second car and follows on from the wildly popular SU7. Preliminary specs include dimensions measuring 4,999 mm long, 1,996 mm wide and 1,600 mm tall, making it two millimetres longer, 33 mm wider and 160 mm taller than the SU7, while the 3,000 mm wheelbase is identical to the sedan.

The car will also utilise a CATL nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery of unspecified capacity – presumably the same Shenxing 94.3 kWh and Qilin 101 kWh packs found in the SU7. Aside from AWD models, a 320 PS (235 kW) rear-wheel-drive variant is also set to be offered, but no range figure has been quoted for that yet.

Xiaomi YU7 SUV revealed – 2nd model after SU7 sedan, up to 690 PS, launch in June/July 2025

The Xiaomi SU7 has taken China by storm since it was revealed last year, and now it’s time for the sophomore album. This is the tech giant’s long-rumoured SUV, now confirmed to be called the YU7, revealed way ahead of its slated debut in either June or July 2025.

From the images provided, the YU7 takes much of its design DNA from its sedan sibling, utilising similar tapered headlights, trapezoidal air intake (replete with body-coloured inserts), sweeping roofline, large rear diffuser and C-shaped taillights that are joined at the bottom.

This being an SUV, you of course get black body cladding (with distinctive angled cutouts in the wheel arches to create a “rifled” look), along with more pronounced front fender vents. The overall look is less Porsche Taycan doppelgänger and more junior Ferrari Purosangue – an impression aided by the muscular front and rear haunches, fast rear windscreen rake and low roof.

Xiaomi YU7 SUV revealed – 2nd model after SU7 sedan, up to 690 PS, launch in June/July 2025

While Xiaomi has yet to provide any information whatsoever, the car has already appeared on China’s ministry of industry and information technology (MIIT) website with some preliminary specs. Car News China reports the car will measure 4,999 mm long, 1,996 mm wide and 1,600 mm tall, making it two millimetres longer, 33 mm wider and 160 mm taller than the SU7, while retaining the same 3,000 mm wheelbase.

The car will also be available with dual electric motors that push out a total of 690 PS (508 kW), making it more powerful than the flagship “base” (read: non-Ultra) SU7 Max. It will also utilise a CATL nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery of unspecified capacity. Expect it to be larger than the SU7 Max’s 101 kWh unit if it’s to match that car’s CLTC-rated range of 800 km.

Adding a second model will help Xiaomi reach even greater heights when it comes to sales. Since its launch in the Middle Kingdom in March, the company has delivered a whopping 112,516 SU7s as of last month. No wonder it has had to raise its sales forecast from 100,000 to 130,000 this year alone.
