Renault Samsung SM7 based on Nissan Teana unveiled

Renault Samsung has unveiled the first shots of the production Renault Samsung SM7, which was previewed just in April as the Renault Samsung SM7 Concept. This Teana-based sedan is intended for the Korean market, but apparently it might just make it to certain markets with a Renault badge.

The production car sheds much of the funkiness that the concept had, which were all the cues that hid the concept car’s Teana origins well. The production version looks much more identifiable as a restyled Nissan Teana.

Look after the jump for a full gallery of both production and concept cars.

I don’t see why they had to restyle the back end for production. The concept version looks acceptable for production use in my opinion. Still an awesome looking car though. Lets hope their cars are as fast as their phones.

Probably cost, that funky rear would incur more tooling cost

      • Tooling cost is amortised, but imagine how much the 3rd-lenghty-lamp would cost each? But they can always add in the price, yes? Same goes to Proton Tuah concept. But… its just that sometimes, you cut some cost but the product lost more significant sales factor than gains in cost-saving!

Hmm..there seems to be no symmetry between the front and the rear end of the car..the rear looks fantastic but the front..a bit dull to say the least

agreed, no wonder the video ads only showed the front lights, if they’ve shown full front*l, it would be very anti-climax hehehehe

it’s like a lady with an ugly face, with nice b**t

Nice look. But the concept’s rear fascia detailing is better, making it look less tail heavy and hatchlike. But it should be ok, given the french’s preference to odd rear designs coming from Renault. (Megane Mk2, Vel Satis, Avantime……etc)

Whatever it is, it improves on nissan’s original overly busy rear end.

Designer always mess up either the front or rear. They just can do it right for both front and rear. Sad…

Btw, i prefer the concept rear rather than production. The production one just look unclist like the teana

Proton should rebadge this as new Perdana lah, not Fuga (limited to govt use only).

The all-new Proton Perdana SM3….simply worst nightmare for Camry, Accord, Sonata here ha ha ha!

I agree. The Fuga or equivalent Infiniti model cannot be the mainstream Perdana replacement model becos of its high price. Dont think the Govt can afford to give or replace all G-owned perdanas with Fuga. But the ministers probably wanted a upmarket model. The Teana or SM3 models are better suited and priced to replace Perdana- quiet, nice ride and spacious enuf to be chauffered. The front looks overly fussy but nice headlamp.

This Sm3 or Teana priced model is a better fit as a Perdana replacement model. the Fuga is an upmarket Infiniti priced (40% more than Teana) that the Govt only wants for the Ministers level. I just cannot see how Mr Gov can afford to replace all the perdanas in Govt use. Nice smooth design except for the overly fussy front snout.

  • The side profile looks better on the production model than it does on the concept IMO… Even the rear looks quite similar to the concept model…

  • Front obviously copying Audi.

Daewoo sole to GM, Samsung sold to Renault, Ssanyong sold to Mahindra & Mahindra, Luckily KIA sold to Hyundai.

Look like the Korean r similar to the British lost most of the brand to foreigner.

Why do they need to rebadge it? Couldn’t they just sell it as a Nissan Teana in Korea?

It looks like a typical Nissan to me, the front and the back look like there were designed by two people who have never spoken to each other.
