W222 Mercedes-Benz S-Class exterior undisguised

w222-s-class-spyshot-1

Man, car manufacturers should really tighten up their photography locations! We’ve already seen high-res studio pix of the new W222/V222 Mercedes-Benz S-Class interior earlier this month, but have yet to see the exterior. Until now of course, as the W222 S-Class has been caught completely undisguised during a photography session.

The S-Class loses it’s very prominent wheel arches with the latest edition, though it remains as stately as ever. The car you see in these spy photos is likely the AMG Sport Package version, looking at the aggressiveness of the front as well as the diffuser-look on the rear.

Looking at the length of the rear doors compared to the front ones, this particular car looks like the long wheelbase model though I could be wrong. There’s no badging on the rear to denote the engine variant either.

  • The rear lights doesn’t match. Looks like a mini S-Class but S-Class’s rear aren’t the best looking one.

BMW is now starting to panic. Infact there are more Mercedes sales in Malaysia than BMW but BMW has always played around with their figures to show they got more sales than Mercedes.

What is not told is that BMW sells close to a thousands cars a year to Sime Darby Rental (former Hertz) which uses the BMW cars as fleet cars for their Sime Darby staff. Sime Darby owns both Hertz and BMW. So, are they really making real sales and really beating Mercedes in their annual figures?

A bit difficult to comment on the look, as the current E-class also looked ugly in pics but in flesh the look is ok. The front lamps looks light tiger eyes just half open, telling us look I am waking up.
BTW, people with good cars mostly wish that there are premium parking slots in malls/shopping complexes, with 30% more width, so that even when other people open their car door fully the door will not knock on the good cars, and they don’t mind paying say RM10 per hour. Just like they are willing to pay RM3 to RM5 just to get a premium toilet where they can safely sit on the toilet bowl.
Please don’t make our shopping complexes/malls/airports feel like pasar malam where the walking lanes can accomodate only 3 persons in a row, the stalls are just too many, all over the places.

The current CLS ass looks more subtle…

Now that the incoming S-class has been disguised, can we expect Theophilus Chin to render the upcoming CL…?

  • side profile looks good, but this is too much for a mercedes, it’s no longer elegant, but wild, crude, and undefined. poor effort.

This S-Class is too big for an AMG version.

    weird, elegant, modern.
The side is the nicest view and somehow there’s some resemblance of Volkswagen CC.
In all, its a gentlemen’s car

Seems like Benz designers are losing out to Audi and Beemers (IMHO)

The front, the side looks ok. But the rear looks so ugly. So end up the whole design is ugly.

Even if I have money I won’t thinking of buying it!

First I thought BMW 7 Series was ugly, now come the uglier from Benz.

  • Personally, I think the back looks quite good. More up market, more classy. Reminds me of Bently and RR.

in this model, the rear has their sister company’s Maybach rear view.. it looks fine, as S class its for very premium saloon customers and normally their target audiences are more mature , so it still remain their elegance class of feel , but with a add on of the current family style which are those LED elements for the front and rear…

Very premium customers now drives Bentley. Mercedes have lost it’s romanic sculptic design cues (which is good )and go for hedge design (which is butt ugly). Get a BMW

  • looks like Merc designs is getting sportier and “younger” relatively..they are trying to get rid of the Merc-is-only-for-old-ppl stigma i think.

Unfortunately even with this type of design, 70% of us here in Malaysia wont be able to afford it hence only old ppl will buy it

    • even in overseas where cars are surprisingly “cheap”. S-class usually only reserve for those 45-50 yo. mid-life crisis uncle who wants to look young and energetic to get rid of those stereotyping. same case happens in Malaysia too. Sometimes its not the capability of affording the car, its social pressure. in Malaysia, if u drive an S-class at 40 yo. ppl will think u r old with no taste. usually negative comments will be more than positive comments.

Looking at the side view, it does remind me of an E-Class. So, without reading the title, I would have assumed it might be the next generation E Class. Anyways, its undoubtedly a Mercedes design but not a real shocker in terms of its overall looks.
