After yesterday’s April Fool’s malarkey, here comes some serious news. Serious in the form of the Toyota GT86 Cup Edition, a new limited production run version of the 86 sports car (GT86 in Europe) that’s developed by Toyota Motorsports GmbH to commemorate the start of its new Toyota GT86 Cup racing series.
It’s exclusive for the Europe market, and is limited to just 86 units – my, my, I wonder how they decided on that number? It costs €2,860 more than the standard car, and includes two tickets to a VIP customer event at the Nurburgring. Look away if you’re expecting more performance; power from the 2.0 litre boxer four stays at the usual 200 hp.
What you do get for the extra dough is a set of body decals to match that of the track-prepped Toyota GT86 CS-V3 cars used for the racing series. The only other visual differentiator is the standard lightweight 18-inch OZ Ultraleggera wheels with 225/40 R18 Pirelli P Zero Corsa GT rubber.
As with most race-based special editions these days, the Toyota GT86 Cup Edition interior is given the Alcantara treatment – the steering wheel and dashboard trim is now wrapped in the grippy material. An individually numbered aluminium plaque and Cup Edition lettering completes the makeover.
