Talk about bringing sexy back. These two have certainly done it. The Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar sports sedan and estate models have been unveiled at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show, each with 345 hp and 500 Nm of torque, 100 km/h time of under five seconds and a limited top speed of 250 km/h.
The figures come from a Polestar-tuned 3.0 litre inline-six engine with a new twin-scroll turbo, paired to a Haldex all-wheel drive system through a six-speed automatic transmission. In comparison, the standard S60 and V60 T6 FWD models get a new 302 hp/400 Nm Drive E 2.0 litre engine with a supercharger and a turbo and get to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.
To handle the extra power, Polestar has fitted new springs (80% stiffer than the R-Design items), Öhlins shock absorbers, large Brembo brakes and bespoke 20-inch wheels to its new performance heroes. The wind tunnel-tested Polestar aerodynamic package, including the splitters, rear diffuser and deck spoiler, increases overall downforce too.
Only two colour options are offered: Polestar’s signature Rebel Blue shown here and Black Sapphire. The sedan and estate models are limited to just 750 units each, and have so far been confirmed for Sweden, UK, Netherlands, Japan, Canada and USA.
