Volkswagen Golf GTD Variant set for Geneva debut

VW Golf GTD Variant 01

Volkswagen is sticking the GTD badge on a Golf Variant for the first time, and the resulting VW Golf GTD Variant will make its debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March.

Like the Mk7 Gran Turismo Diesel hatchback, the GTD Variant is powered by a 2.0 litre TDI engine producing 184 PS and 380 Nm of torque. It’s a GTD, so it must balance performance with economy – how does 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and fuel consumption of 4.4 litres per 100 km (22.7 km/l) sound to you?

Looks wise, the hot wagon is fitted with unique GTD bumpers, honeycomb radiator grille, smoked rear lights and flared sills. The look is completed by 17-inch “Curitiba” alloys, black roof rails and dual chrome pipes. Also standard are bi-xenon headlights, sports suspension (ride height lowered by 15 mm) and progressive steering, which provides sharper response during spirited driving and ease of use in daily conditions.

The dynamic theme continues inside with sports seats in Clark tartan fabric, illuminated door sills and black headliner/pillar trim. Also in are panels in Checkered Black, stainless steel pedal caps, aluminium trim on the multifunction steering wheel and a “golf ball” gear knob.

On the options list are 18-inch “Nogaro” alloys and seats in Alcantara or Vienna leather. Sports and Design packages featuring driving mode selection, red brake calipers and tinted windows can also be specified.

Sorry for the off topic but will there be a reduction on petrol prices coming this 1 feb? If one follows the oil prices there has been a 15% drop in crude oil since 1st Jan and prices should be adjusted accordingly.

184 PS and 380 Nm of torque…similar to the power from a 520d.

What gearbox is this unit riding on?

    • Its for European mkt, my guess it will come std wt manual gearbox wt option for the DSG6 wet clutch since the torque is 380nm (way above the dsg7 dry clutch max torque rating of abt 250-260nm)
