The upcoming Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe has all the hallmarks of a classy two door in a sexy yet sporty package. The coupe will trade reduced rear seat room and less trunk space for a sleeker roofline, vehicle line chief Christian Frueh told Autonews USA.
Mercedes’ chief designer, Gorden Wagener, too said that he was quite adamant of the “sporty” design approach, which required the rear seats to be pushed forward and the roofline lowered by 40 mm compared to the current model.
There was an opportunity begging to be taken, and Frueh’s team seized on it to break the mould and create a truly sporty derivation of the C-Class. Apparently, the passengers now sit about 25 mm lower, and the centre of gravity is also correspondingly lower.
Meanwhile, the wide-body Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe will have inherently exclusive side panels that will make it stand out when compared to the standard versions. Like its sedan counterpart, two AMG models will be offered: a 469 hp C 63 Coupe and a 503 hp C 63 S Coupe as well.
Reports state that in the US, the line-up will include a 241 hp C 300 Coupe, powered by a 2.0 litre, four-cylinder engine, priced at just under $40,000 (RM152,400). The other two models, the C 400 Coupe and C 450 AMG Coupe will share a 3.0 litre biturbo V6 (with either 333 hp or 362 hp), with 4Matic all-wheel drive available as an option.
