Sime Darby AutoConnexion has quietly introduced the Ford Ranger Special Edition, a limited run of 100 kitted-up units based on the 2.2 XLT Automatic 4×4 Hi-Rider. We actually spotted an ad for it on our sister site oto.my, prompting us to find out more.
The variant gets a redressed face with a Special Edition black front grille, a Special Edition Sports Bar and a rear bumper painted in black. It’s also kitted out with a bedliner, side steps and fender flares, and will be available in two dedicated exterior colours, these being Black Mica and True Red.
There’s a sporty leather interior – the seats are finished in black leather, and the trim is also dressed in said material as well. Another highlight on the SE is the inclusion of a seven-inch touchscreen head-unit with navigation and a reverse camera.
Otherwise, no mechanical changes to the particular version of the pre-facelift T6, the Puma ZSD-422 2.2 litre commonrail direct injection oil burner continuing to offer 150 PS at 3,700 rpm and 375 Nm of twist at 2,500 rpm. On this one, the mill is paired with a 6R80 six-speed automatic transmission.
There’s a bit of a premium price-wise though – the Ranger Special Edition goes for RM108,200 on-the-road without insurance. Think of it as a fancy close-out hurrah for the pre-facelift – the facelifted T6, which premiered in Bangkok in March, is set to make its debut sometime in October/November.

Offered only on the XLT Extended Cab model, the FX4 was geared toward buyers who planned to do some serious off-roading. All Rangers got a SecuriLock antitheft system, while XLT and Edge 4WD models received a new 16-inch wheel design.
