BMW X6 to be built at Spartanburg plant

bmwx5450.jpg

BMW is preparing it’s plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. to build as many as 40,000 units of it’s upcoming new model, the BMW X6. According to BMW of North America CEO Tom Purves, the new BMW X6 (concept art shown above) will be priced above US$50,000, will not be as big as the Mercedes Benz R-class that it is going up against, but will have all-wheel drive, BMW sport handling and room for five adults. This dispels rumours that the BMW X6 will be a 7-seater.

BMW’s Spartanburg plant currently builds the 2nd generation E70 BMW X5 and the BMW Z4 Roadster. Faurecia, one of BMW’s suppliers in North America says they are heavily into “launch mode”, which means we should expect the BMW X6 to be launched soon.

With the roofline going down to the back line that, 7 seaters would mean that the last 2 seats are for people without heads. Luckily it isn't.

I still don't get the reason behind making a SUV that looks like a coupe. SUV should be a tough and mean machine. In this case, the X6 is for those who wants to get an X5 and doesn't need the extra 2 seats. I guess BMW is trying to experiment this niche segment of SUV.

I seriously dont get this very much.

It cant be a serious SUV, can't really go off road, lack the utility, not that sporty. Why?

Why would I go for that instead of a proper BMW 535d Estate with X-drive????

Same reason with the X3 and the 3 Series Estate with X-drive

I think this is just to steal some thunder from Cayenne. With a shape like that, it should be able to beat the current record held by the 700HP Sportec Porsche Cayenne, which did 0-60mph in 4.2s and roared up to 191mph! Previous land speed record for an off-roader was 175.2mph.

X6 won't be the first coz I remember Alfa and Maserati's attempt were coupe like as well.

Why the current model nowadays is like going mix and match? SUV+Coupe, MPV+Wagon(estate),Saloon+Corvertible, as examples. If all the car doing mix like this, this going be difficult to the differences. Ok, if people want a BMW bike with seven seater, will the Bavaria create that? oh my god, that's why so many weird design today and tomorrow…

The R-class Merc like a rojak, mix here(Estate) and there(SUV), then you'll get R-Class… UGLY!

and now BMW X6 Rojak again… UGLY too!

    i think its a popular trend…

Nissan have their Rogue too, a sporty little SUV…. UGLY!

Opel that Alcantara….(correct me if i'm wrong) OK!

    and many more..

Yeah, it's as if the car makers these days are playing god by splicing genes from one animal and another to create a monster. Don't know but maybe they think that the market wants the best of both classes without too much compromise. Maybe the market needs to learn and show they we are clear in what we want and therefore not putting hideous things like these on the road.

PS: this new BM is really fugly and it's disappointing for a company that sells their cars as UDM to be just cashing in a niche market. Still the new M3 is highly anticipated, though i probably will never get a ride in it or much drive it.

Wait minute, the back of this Art Concept looks a bit like a Gen-2…Check out the C-pillar window and minus the big wheels.

My comment on the new BM still stands.

Why would anyone buy this is beyond me (other than being just …well..different)

Its not a proper Truck, can't really go off road, has basically the utility of a small hatchback and isn't a particularly sporty looking (and handling probably)..

Why would someone get one instead of a properly good 535d (or 530 Petrol) Estate with x-drive?

Same goes to the X3 and the 3 series Estate with Xdrive
