Kia Concept i Self-Build: iKIA for cars?
Them Koreans sure have a sense of humour. Kia’s April fool’s prank was the Kia Concept i kit car, or i’KIA, an obvious parody of Swedish furniture company Ikea, which built it’s brand on the whole concept of affordable DIY furnishing.
The Kia Concept i Self-Build, if it actually existed, would allow buyers to choose their own engine, transmission, trim specs, and even body, whether sedan, hatch, stationwagon or even pick-up. Based on choices, the consumer would be supplied modules, and the consumer would assemble the car himself at home.

i think the concept of DIY cars is not entirely impossible. go-cart-like performance roadsters like the ariel atom or caterham r400 could be packed in boxes.

Good and funny concept but I think if put to real standards, we would be able to choose their range of parts to be fitted into the car of our choice not let us build it ourselves literally. Kia would not want to face lawsuits for car safety negligence would they?

Good idea! It isn’t much different from kit cars then, you just have more choices in performance and trim.

Yup.. I almost fooled by this ad, bro. At first I thought it was a new revolution of Internet connection. Haha.. how hilarious.. I wonder if it was a reality, sure will be a really great impact over TMNet and other ISP in Malaysia, and the whole wide world..

I was reading this elswhere and was so happy, Kia dared to sell a mainstream car in kit form, then I realised that using an allen key to assemble was absurd, and the iKia name was just playing on IKEA. One look at the date (April 1st) confirmed it was a hoax. Nevertheless good unconventional marketing effort from Kia UK (I assume cos its Pound Sterling).
