Michelin wants to get back into Formula 1

Unfortunately for Pirelli, the decision on who will be providing the tyres for the 2011 season hasn’t been made yet as previously expected.

The recent Turkish Grand Prix was supposed to be where the decision was to be made, but Michelin had a plan of their own and sent competition boss Nick Shorrock to Istanbul. This resulted in a 90 minute meeting with no clear decision being made.

Teams are now a bit worried as they have to start designing next years car. Many teams have remedied that problem by producing the ‘technical specifications’ of the tyre they want for 2011. This will allow the design process to continue while they base everything on the current Bridgestone tyres.

At the moment both Pirelli and Michelin have been earmarked as suppliers for the 2011 season. All we have to do is keep our ears to the ground.

I prefer Michelin. Very good and reputable tyre maker. No problem thus far from my experiences with the PP2 and the new PS3.

Pirelli’s last motorsport venture was the WRC (i think they’re still in it), so it remains whether they could excel in this.

I think it’ll be good if they can get selected teams to actually run both tyres on a special ‘one-off’ test and vote for the better tyre, based on braking, accleration, durability and cornering performance.

FKR tyre / Sime tyre / Silverstone tyre not big enough to compete in F1.
Better concentrate on local MME race !
