Mazda applies KODO design to the Mazda2 and Mazda3

We recently featured Mazda’s new Shinari concept, which is the first embodiment of the new “KODO” design language for the company’s future models.

Mazda claims positive reactions from the media, industry and fans. Thus, they thought it would be a good idea to give the general public what the new design language featured on the concept car would look like on existing hatchback models like the Mazda2 and the Mazda3.

To do that, the company have released a video of just that. Not using standard 3D rendering, the video was created by projecting images and colours onto clay models. Like the Shinari concept, design of the car’s look very progressive and new, but don’t get your hopes up too much as this is barely a concept, just a preview of things to come. Enjoy the video above!

Please improve the interior of your cars Mazda, as they look cheaper compared to some of their rivals especially M2. I say again: it is cheaper, doesn’t mean it is very cheap(for Mazda fans).

There are problems with that video…Mazda really should double check the video fully before releasing it. The static flashes don’t look like they were done intentionally, more like a mistake during encoding.

Am I the only one who looks at the front area and is reminded of the Satria Neo?

Not really digging those tiny headlights.

Overall, I have to say, I preferred the smiley faces. But the smiley face doesn’t really work on the 3 currently, so it’ll be interesting to see how they design the Kodo 3.

On a side note, Paul, no comments on the Kiyori concept? Or did I miss the post? Looks like that are definitely worth commenting upon! :)

Nice design, Mazuda’s looks never fail to excite me, it is like the Alfa Romeo of Japan. By the way, the sales man told me the other day they are bringing in a Mazda 3 turbo with 230 hp, can anyone confirm that?

It’s a cheetah by the way. I don’t get the whole video presentation. Gives me a headache too. And yeah, the cheetah part doesn’t even make sense. It’s like they’re trying to justify their design by imposing the leopard image on the design, and then viola! “we design our car based on this big cat”. IMO, the best cheetah picture to impose on the design is a sleeping one, in the zoo.
