The Audi RS 7 Sportback is no slouch, and for the people over at Audi Middle East, they are here to prove that point with this promotional video dubbed the “Elevation Challenge.” So, just what will the stylish RS machine go up against? A building’s elevator. More specifically, the one found in the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
It may sound like curious challenge, but when you consider that the tallest artificial structure in the world (828 metres) features elevators that can travel up to speeds of 10 m/s or 36 km/h, it does start to become a little bit more interesting.
The challenge itself is pretty straightforward, Audi Sport driver Edoardo Mortara will race up the Jebel Hafeet mountain, with an elevation of 1,249 metres in the RS 7. Meanwhile, Musa Khalfan Yasin, the fastest 100 metre sprinter in the United Arab Emirates, will rely on the speedy elevator to get him to the top of the building before the Audi crosses the finish line at the mountaintop.
Yasin has to depend on the elevator’s speed plus his own two legs to get him to the top of the building as quickly as possible. On the other hand, Mortara has at his disposal the RS 7’s twin-turbo 4.0 litre TFSI V8 engine, cranking out 605 hp and 750 Nm and Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system to help him navigate the twisty bends of the mountain road.
During the challenge, the RS 7 demonstrates its impressive 0-100 km/h sprint time of just 3.7 seconds, along with the encouraging grunts from its V8 powerplant. Unfortunately, a stray goat in the middle of the road does hold up Mortara for a little while. Yasin’s progress however, is absent of any drama.
We won’t spoil the results of the challenge for you but it certainly is a close one. One thing we will say is, if it wasn’t for that blasted goat!
