Launched in Thailand back in June this year, the Toyota Camry ESport is a sportier take on the standard Camry that we are familiar with. At the 2015 Thailand Motor Expo, said model was on display and we couldn’t help but to snap a few photos of it.

At first glance, you might believe that this is a new model altogether. However, the Camry ESport’s looks mirror that of the American– and Australian-market Toyota Camry. This includes its body panels and several other fitments as well.

Where our local Asian-market Camry adopts a more angular look, the ESport is curvier by comparison, but still goes the aggressive route as well. Up front, the large triple-gaping grille is flanked by more slender-looking headlights as well. Thin fog lamps occupy the lower fascia as well.

Along the side, the door panels now feature a more aggressive haunch at the bottom, and the 17-inch wheels multi-spoke wheels are wrapped in Bridgestone Turanza tyres. At the rear, the curvaceous design continues, accompanied by twin tailpipes and new taillights.

However, even though both the Camry and Camry ESport “sport” nearly the same dimensions – 4,850 mm long, 1,470 mm tall, with a 2,775 mm wheelbase, the ESport is about 10 mm wider, at 1,835 mm.

Inside, things become just a tad bit more familiar with a similar dashboard layout to our local Camry. Apparent differences include the air-con vents and controls, digital clock display and three-spoke steering wheel. Oh, and the wood-like trim is also replaced with black ones instead.

Under the hood, you’ll find a 2.5 litre four-cylinder Dual VVT-i engine (used in the previous Camry) with 185 hp and 235 Nm of torque on tap, which is more than the Thailand-spec Camry 2.5G’s 2AR-FE (181 PS/231 Nm). A six-speed automatic gearbox (with paddle shifters) handles power transmission to the front wheels.

In Thailand, the Toyota Camry ESport is priced at 1,639,000 baht (RM194,116), a 70,000 baht (RM8,290) premium over the 1,569,000 baht (RM185,838) standard Camry 2.5G. However, would you be willing to pay more for a sportier-looking Camry if the ESport was offered here?
