Tesla Model S for kids by Radio Flyer – it’s a real EV!

Radio Flyer has introduced a miniature Tesla Model S that allows for three- to eight-year-olds to get behind the wheel of the full-electric vehicle. Developed in collaboration with Tesla, the miniature model runs purely on electricity and to add to that, it’s fully customisable too. Sadly, it’s only available in the US.

Providing the little car with juice is a 0.13 kWh lithium-ion battery pack by Flight Speed, that claims to offer the longest run time and the fastest charge time (under three hours), which means more play time! Just like the full-scale Model S, there’s a charging outlet located at the rear tail light. Additionally, the little battery in the back can be taken out for external charging.

To give kids the full-on Tesla experience, there are two settings, selectable via a switch next to the battery pack, that allow for different speeds. The first is for “beginners” which limits the Model S to a pace of 3.2 km/h. The second speed – for “advanced” drivers – that will allow the little Model S to surge up to 9.6 km/h. However, no 0-9.6 km/h times were revealed.

Other features that come with the 18.3-kg single seater Model S include working headlights, a frunk (front trunk), forward and reverse function and there’s even a sound system inside. As mentioned it’s customisable too, kids can choose to have a personalised licence plate, silver turbine wheels and a customisable parking sign if they so wish.

Colour schemes available include midnight silver metallic, deep blue metallic and a red multi-coat paint – all similar to the Model S’ colours. Other options include a larger 0.19 kWh premium battery that promises 50% more play time per charge and an indoor car cover. The car itself costs USD$499 (RM2,100), while opting for the added kit (including a spare premium battery) will see the mini EV priced at USD$804 (RM3,380).
