Chevrolet has announced that it will be unveiling two concepts at next week’s 2016 Bangkok International Motor Show, which it says will hint at the Bowtie’s new direction in pick-up trucks in the Land of Smiles. Of course, the only pick-up that the brand sells in Thailand is the Chevrolet Colorado, which means that the show trucks will, in fact, preview the facelifted model.
The sole shadowy teaser image provided shows a heavily-ruggedised pick-up with large, knobbly tyres, wider black wheel arch trims, a snorkel, a bonnet bulge and a roof rack. Also visible are the new L-shaped LED daytime running lights that line the reshaped headlights.
Of course, we already know what the facelifted Colorado will look like, thanks to a spyshot that showed the revised pick-up completely undisguised. Apart from the new headlights, there’s also a reshaped hood to go with them, along with a reprofiled dual-port grille and a full-width lower air intake.
In Malaysia, the Colorado is currently offered with a 2.5 litre Duramax turbodiesel engine making 161 hp and 380 Nm. Higher up in the range is a 2.8 litre version producing 180 hp and 440 Nm, while the range-topping 2.8 LTZ model gets the second-generation Duramax mill pushing out 193 hp and 500 Nm. Both the 2.5 LT and 2.8 LT are paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, while the 2.8 LTZ gets a six-speed auto.
Other markets already get the 2.5 litre version of the new Duramax oil burner making 163 hp and 380 Nm, so it’s likely that the engine will be introduced in Malaysia with the facelift.
Also at the Chevrolet stand will be the facelifted Captiva. The seven-seat SUV gains the updates seen on the Australian-market Holden-badged model – including revised front and rear fascias, LED daytime running lights and a new dashboard – and is claimed to be the first vehicle in Thailand to offer Apple CarPlay connectivity.
