VIDEO: New Volvo V90 ad featuring Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Here it is then, the new European marketing campaign for the Volvo V90 has officially been released in full. Starring Swedish football superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the video clip is 3 minutes 20 seconds long, taking place primarily in France during the build up to a Euro 2016 match.

Titled ‘Prologue’, the prolific striker describes his rise from humble beginnings being born to parents of different nationalities, growing up in one of Sweden’s toughest neighbourhoods in Malmö to his successful career as a professional football player.

“I wanted to go further than anyone else. So I did. My way,” Zlatan is heard saying in the film. This mentality of doing things differently and working hard at them is just one of the similarities between Zlatan’s and Volvo’s journeys, explained Anders Gustafsson, senior vice president (Europe, Middle East and Africa) at Volvo Car Group.

As for the V90 itself, the wagon plays the role of Zlatan’s transport to what should be one of Sweden’s Euro 2016 matches. We get to see some of the V90’s design details, which include, the “Thor’s Hammer” DRLs (watch it emerge from the smoke in a scene), profile and tail lamps.

The film itself is pretty inspirational, with upbeat music by Hans Zimmer and scenes of Zlatan’s various exploits on the pitch, including “that” goal against England in 2012. Certainly a good way to kickstart the day, don’t you think? What are your thoughts on the marketing campaign for the V90?
