Here it is, folks – the new Volvo V90 has finally been revealed ahead of its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month. Joining the brand-new XC90 SUV and S90 sedan, the arrival of this estate completes the brand’s range of 90 series models.
Unfortunately, several live and studio images of the model have been leaked before, somewhat spoiling the V90’s big reveal. But here, however, Volvo has released a full gallery of its latest product with a high-res look inside and out.
“We have a very strong position in the estate segment. In many people’s minds we are known as the definitive estate brand. While the Volvo brand today stands for more than estates, we are proud to carry forward this rich heritage with the V90,” said Håkan Samuelsson, president and chief executive of Volvo Cars.
Some 60 years in the making now, the latest Volvo estate is the third model from the brand to ride on its new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), following the XC90 and S90. Full technical specs haven’t been disclosed yet, but the Swedish car maker has revealed a few initial details.
“The modern premium estate is all about the intriguing combination of a luxurious experience with the functional origins of the estates silhouette. The sophisticated ambience of our new Volvo Interiors is combined with a great cargo space, providing the right kind of functionality – whether through connectivity or cargo and storage solutions,” said Thomas Ingenlath, senior vice president for design at Volvo Cars.
As is the case with the S90, the new V90 will also feature Volvo’s Pilot Assist semi-autonomous drive technology, large animal detection capabilities and a run-off road mitigation system. The latest-gen Volvo Sensus infotainment system is also featured, equipped with Apple CarPlay connectivity from the off.
Volvo has also confirmed that just like the S90, the V90 will feature the T8 Twin Engine petrol plug-in hybrid powertrain that will deliver up to 410 hp and offer a pure electric driving range of around 50 km. Its new PowerPulse diesel technology will also be available.
That’s about all the information Volvo has revealed for now, so stay tuned to paultan.org for full technical details of the new V90 as soon as it is available. Also, given that this V90 is very closely linked to its S90 sedan sibling, you may as well check out our report on that for a further taste of things to come here.
*heavy breathing*
White on the outside, yellow on the inside.
too good. too good to be true.
i want one. NOW
The rear could use a bit of fixing, I’m not a big fan of the rear lights eating into the tailgate (not very Volvo, doesn’t give a clean light silhouette unlike their other models), and the Volvo badge on the rear could be repositioned lower.
But hot damn, this is one stunner. Forget the rather plain jane German counterparts, that interior has me sold.
Rear lights eating into tailgate had been a design featured in concepts. Looks close to the concepts, so fine by me.
finally volvo is becoming the mazda of conti world with their design language.
Is the word embossed on the headrests “Innoculation”?
Better than ‘Intoxication’ i guess
its inscription
it’s ‘Inscription’ that’s volvo’s brand for the top end customized models
This and the Mazda6 are the only wagons I would consider
the PowerPulse is clever, using stored compressed air from an eletric compressor to instantly boost the turbo up to speed while waiting for revs to build
is that the new S40/S60 in this image?
