Overview
The Volvo EC40 is a compact executive electric SUV launched in 2022, aimed at buyers wanting a five-seat Volvo EV with long claimed driving range and a choice of rear- or all-wheel-drive performance. Prices start from RM248,888 for the Ultra Single Motor; the Ultra Twin Motor costs RM288,888.
The EC40 carries on into 2026 unchanged following the late-2025 introduction of the Ultra Single Motor. The current range comprises the rear-wheel-drive Ultra Single Motor with 238 PS and a 488 km WLTP range, plus the all-wheel-drive Ultra Twin Motor. The model was previously called the C40 Recharge before the EC40 name arrived in 2024. Volvo Car UX and the Snapdragon Cockpit Platform also reach the EC40 from 2025.

Which variant to buy
Most buyers should take the RM248,888 Ultra Single Motor. Its 70 kWh battery, 488 km range and 235 hp make it the lower-cost route into the EC40, while retaining five seats and the Ultra trim. Pay the RM40,000 extra for the RM288,888 Ultra Twin Motor if the 82 kWh battery, 554 km range and 408 hp matter more to you. On paper, that gap buys more battery capacity, 66 km of extra range and much stronger output.

The EC40 is priced close to the BMW iX1, sitting RM1,912 below it, and RM10,000 below the MINI Countryman. The Single Motor is also far costlier than the RM80,000 Perodua QV-E, RM95,000 Seres 3 and RM100,000 BYD Atto 2. Its appeal is the combination of compact executive positioning, a 488 km claimed range and five-seat practicality; the Twin Motor adds meaningful performance and range, but at a substantial premium.
