Model Y in 2026 — what's new

The 2025-launched Model Y Juniper remains the current model in 2026. The Malaysian line-up now comprises Rear-wheel Drive, Long Range RWD and the six-seat L Premium AWD; the previous Long Range AWD has been dropped. The Juniper also moves from a white interior option to Zen Grey at the same price. Prices rose by RM1,400 to RM3,000 in July 2026, bringing the range to RM198,000 to RM263,000.

Which variant to buy

Most buyers should choose the RM219,000 Long Range RWD. For RM21,000 over the Rear-wheel Drive, it keeps the same 295 hp and rear-wheel-drive layout but raises battery capacity from 60 kWh to 75 kWh and claimed range from 466 km to 661 km. Pay RM263,000 for the L Premium only if six seats and AWD are requirements: its 82 kWh battery, 456 hp output and 681 km range are its key gains.

Verdict

The Model Y range has a straightforward sweet spot in the Long Range RWD, whose 661 km claimed range is a substantial step up from the entry car without moving into L Premium money. The base model matches the Toyota Urban Cruiser’s RM198,000 starting price, while the L Premium costs more than the RM208,888 Volvo EX30 and RM188,000 Suzuki eVitara. Choose the L for its extra seating and AWD, not merely its 20 km range gain.
